DOST-PCIEERD invests Php 136M to boost technology transfer in 25 HEIs through the IMPACT NXT Program

Twenty-five Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the country are set to strengthen the utilization and commercialization of university-generated technologies with the support of the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) through the IP Management for Academic and Research Institutions Commercializing Technologies (IMPACT) NXT Program.

With a total investment of Php 136 million, the program aims to accelerate the translation of research outputs into real-world innovations, products, services, and enterprises that can benefit industries and communities. Over the next 1.5 years, participating HEIs will enhance their technology transfer and intellectual property (IP) management capacities, enabling them to maximize the value and impact of their research and development (R&D) investments.

The program is designed to increase the utilization and commercialization of research by providing comprehensive support to universities and research institutions. Through the program, HEIs will be assisted in establishing and strengthening their technology protection and transfer policies and processes, ensuring that innovations developed within their institutions are properly managed and prepared for commercialization.

Participating institutions will also benefit from capability-building initiatives for technology transfer officers, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate intellectual property protection, technology valuation, marketing, licensing, and commercialization. In addition, the program supports the assessment of research outputs to identify technologies with strong commercialization potential.

A key component of the program is facilitating the disclosure and protection of intellectual properties, helping researchers safeguard their innovations through appropriate IP mechanisms. The program likewise promotes technologies developed by HEIs and supports their licensing and commercialization, creating pathways for research breakthroughs to reach industry partners, investors, and end-users.

By strengthening technology transfer ecosystems within universities, DOST-PCIEERD continues to advance its mission of transforming publicly funded research into innovations that drive economic growth, industry competitiveness, and national development. Through IMPACT NXT, the Council empowers HEIs to become active contributors to the country's innovation ecosystem, ensuring that research outcomes move beyond laboratories and into the hands of those who can create meaningful impact.

Held from September 11 to 13, 2026, MIPAM provided the Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) resident theatre company with a rare opportunity to bring its work into a professional performing arts marketplace through the Showcase/Performance Pitching segment at the Centro de Turismo, Intramural, Manila,Philippines. The Cultural Center of the Philippines formally confirmed Teyatro Dasuliman's participation in the MIPAM 2026 Showcase in its June 25, 2026 letter.

For a theatre company rooted in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte, the journey to MIPAM is more than an artistic engagement.

It is a milestone.

It is a statement that regional theatre can travel.

That stories born in Mindanao can enter national and international conversations.

And that artists nurtured within a state university can stand alongside practitioners in one of the country's most important performing arts environments.

At the center of that journey is PULSO, a dance-musical theatre production written by Jann Dainver L. Maravilla.

Set in a remote Mindanao community surrounded by mountains and rivers, PULSO follows an enigmatic Mananambal, a healer who can read not only the ailments of the body but also the hidden wounds of the soul through the rhythm of a person's pulse.

Three estranged siblings, Samal, Salam and Salmo, seek the healer after years of sickness, misfortune and emptiness. What they believe to be a supernatural affliction, however, turns out to be something much deeper: a broken relationship among themselves, their community and the natural world.

Their healing takes them through four sacred realms, Water, Fire, Earth and Air, where dancers, singers, spirits and ancestral voices force them to confront grief, anger, pride, ecological neglect, fear, silence and forgiveness.

Through dance, ritual movement and original music inspired by Mindanaoan rhythms and contemporary musical theatre, PULSO transforms the stage into a landscape of memory, conflict and reconciliation.

The production ultimately arrives at a powerful realization: the deepest illness is not supernatural but relational, a broken pulse between self, family, community and creation.

PULSO is therefore a meditation on indigenous wisdom, ecological stewardship, family reconciliation and the interconnectedness of all life.

The four-person ensemble responded to MIPAM's showcase format, which required a 20-minute presentation with a maximum of four performers on stage, alongside minimal lighting and technical requirements.
Yet behind those four performers was an entire artistic and production team whose collective work gave PULSO its life.

The company also extends its heartfelt appreciation to the additional production personnel who contributed to bringing PULSO to life, particularly during the production's video shoot and preparation. ๐Œ๐ฌ. ๐Œ๐š๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ง ๐‚๐ฅ๐š๐ข๐ซ๐ž ๐†๐š๐ฅ๐š๐›๐ข๐ง, who served as ๐‘ณ๐’Š๐’ˆ๐’‰๐’•๐’” ๐‘ด๐’‚๐’๐’‚๐’ˆ๐’†๐’“ during the video shoot, helped shape the visual atmosphere and ensure that the production was effectively captured on camera. ๐Š๐ก๐ฒ๐ณ๐ž๐ซ ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ฆ ๐’๐ฎ๐ ๐š๐ง๐จ๐›, as ๐‘ท๐’“๐’๐’‘๐’” ๐‘ด๐’‚๐’๐’‚๐’ˆ๐’†๐’“, took responsibility for the preparation and management of the production's props, helping strengthen the physical and visual world of PULSO. Their contributions, though largely taking place behind the scenes, were essential in allowing PULSO to communicate its artistic vision beyond the live stage and reach wider audiences.

Together with the performers, the production team formed the creative pulse behind the company's international presentation.

The CCP's formal confirmation gave Teyatro Dasuliman the opportunity to participate in MIPAM's Showcase/Performance Pitching segment, including networking and B2B activities designed to connect artists and organizations within the performing arts sector.

Her leadership and the department's work in facilitating cultural exchange have helped create pathways through which artists can move beyond their immediate communities and participate in wider cultural conversations.

For Teyatro Dasuliman, that pathway led from Dapitan to Manila, and toward the international performing arts community.

The company is deeply grateful for the opportunity.

For a company whose roots are firmly planted in an academic and regional setting, such support is invaluable.

The company likewise extends its deepest appreciation to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) for the grant support that contributed to making this artistic journey possible.
For regional artists and cultural organizations, grants such as these do more than provide financial assistance.

They create possibility.

They allow artists to rehearse, create, travel, present and dream beyond the limitations imposed by geography and resources.

For Teyatro Dasuliman, the NCCA's support became part of the bridge that allowed PULSO to move from a creative vision into a work presented on a major performing arts platform.

The company is profoundly grateful for that investment in Filipino artists and in the continuing development of Philippine culture and the arts.

๐Œ๐จ๐ซ๐ž ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ง ๐š ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž
MIPAM required participating groups to engage not only in performance but also in B2B Meetings and Networking Sessions and Content Pitching, providing opportunities for artists to connect with the broader performing arts ecosystem. Participants were also given access to showcases and featured performances at the CCP.
For Teyatro Dasuliman, this transforms the MIPAM experience from a simple performance into a professional and cultural exchange.

PULSO entered the space carrying a distinctly Mindanaoan artistic sensibility.

It carried the stories of mountains and rivers.

It carried ancestral voices.

It carried questions about family, community and the environment.

And it carried the creative aspirations of artists from Dapitan.

๐…๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ƒ๐š๐ฉ๐ข๐ญ๐š๐ง ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ฅ๐
The significance of Teyatro Dasuliman's MIPAM participation ultimately lies in what it represents.
It represents the continuing rise of regional creative voices.

It represents the capacity of state universities to nurture professional-caliber artists.

It represents the possibility of bringing Mindanaoan stories into broader cultural conversations.

And it represents what becomes possible when artists, institutions, government agencies, cultural organizations and communities work together.

No single person brought Teyatro Dasuliman to MIPAM.

Many people did.

The performers carried the story.

The production team shaped it.

The university supported it.

The cultural agencies opened pathways.

The organizers created the platform.

The grant made part of the journey possible.

And the audience gave the work its most important destination: someone willing to listen.

๐Ž๐ง๐ž ๐œ๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฌ๐ž
The final act of PULSO culminates in a ritual of reconciliation in which the individual heartbeats of the siblings become one collective rhythm. Water flows, fire dances, earth trembles and air sings.
It is perhaps the most fitting metaphor for Teyatro Dasuliman's MIPAM journey.

Because this achievement, too, is a collective pulse.

A pulse created by artists and administrators.

By teachers and mentors.

By government and cultural institutions.

By supporters and families.

By Dapitan and JRMSU.

By everyone who believed that a theatre company from the northwestern edge of Mindanao could take its work to the wider world.

To all who opened a door, processed a document, provided assistance, offered guidance, extended a grant, created a platform, documented a journey, watched a rehearsal, supported a performer, or simply believedโ€”

Teyatro Dasuliman says: Daghang salamat. Maraming salamat. Thank you.

This moment belongs to all of you.

The journey does not end in Manila.
MIPAM 2026 is not the conclusion of Teyatro Dasuliman's journey.
It is another beginning.

A beginning that affirms that the creative voice of Dapitan can travel, that Mindanaoan stories deserve wider stages, and that the artists of Jose Rizal Memorial State University can participate meaningfully in the larger Philippine and international cultural landscape.

From Dapitan to Manila.

From JRMSU to the international performing arts community.

From Mindanao to the world.

PULSO has begun to travel.

And wherever it goes, it carries with it the people and place that gave it life.

Every river has a memory.
Every mountain keeps a story.
Every wind carries a voice.
And every life beginsโ€”and healsโ€”with a pulse.
