In celebration of National Women’s Month 2026, the Bicol University – Institute of Physical Education, Sports and Recreation (BU-IPESR) invites everyone to join ZUMBABAE: Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas!

𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟰, 𝟭𝟭, & 𝟭𝟴, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, 𝟱:𝟬𝟬 𝗣𝗠 𝗼𝗻𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗚𝗔 – 𝗕𝗨 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅.

This dance fitness session is more than just movement. It celebrates the strength, resilience, leadership, and important contributions of women in all parts of society. Inspired by the Babaylans, who were respected leaders and change-makers in pre-colonial Philippines, this event highlights the vital role of women in education, governance, health, sports, community development, and nation-building.

We warmly invite faculty, non-teaching personnel, and students of Bicol University, nearby barangays and communities, adopted barangays of BU-IPESR under the Extension Service Program, government agencies and offices, private sector partners, and community organizations.

Let’s come together in solidarity to promote gender equality, inclusivity, and women’s empowerment through fitness, community, and action. Your participation shows support for women’s rights, acknowledges their achievements, and commits to creating a more inclusive society.

This 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣’𝙨 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝, we raise not only our voices but our fists, our stories, and our truths. We celebrate every woman who refused to shrink in spaces that demanded her silence, every woman who turned oppression into resistance, and every woman who chose to exist beyond the limits written for her.

To be a woman is not to be “just” anything. She is not just fragile. Not just quiet. Not just secondary. She is power in motion, courage in flesh, and change in human form. She is a leader, a fighter, a dreamer, and a force that reshapes the world simply by refusing to stay small.

As 𝙈𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙢 𝘿𝙚𝙛𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙤𝙧 𝙎𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙜𝙤 once said, “𝐆𝐨 𝐚𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐞. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐧.” These words live in every woman who continues to rise despite doubt, despite barriers, despite a system that was never built for her but will be transformed because of her.

We honor the women who came before us, who broke ceilings with bare hands so we could stand taller today. And we stand with the women of today, who continue to fight not just for equality, but for dignity, autonomy, and the right to become whoever they choose to be.

𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐤𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐲𝐚 𝐬𝐚 𝐊𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧: 𝐀𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐤𝐚 40 𝐀𝐧𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲𝐨 𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐃𝐒𝐀 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Noong Pebrero 1986, sa kahabaan ng Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, isinulat ng karaniwang mamamayan ang isang pambihirang kabanata sa kasaysayan. Ang EDSA People Power Revolution ay hindi lamang isang pangyayaring pampolitika; ito ay isang makapangyarihang patunay na ang tunay na kapangyarihan ay nagmumula sa nagkakaisang tinig ng bayan.

Sa gitna ng takot, panunupil, at kawalan ng katiyakan, libo libong Pilipino ang nagtipon hindi upang makipagdigma, kundi upang manindigan. Hawak nila ang rosaryo, plakard, at pag asa. Pinili nilang ipaglaban ang kalayaan sa mapayapang paraan, ipinakita sa buong mundo na ang demokrasya ay maaaring maitaguyod sa pamamagitan ng tapang at pagkakaisa.

Ang EDSA ay naging simbolo ng pagbawi ng dignidad ng sambayanan. Isa itong paggising mula sa mahabang gabi ng pangamba, at pagyakap sa liwanag ng pananagutan at malayang pagpapasya. Hindi ito simpleng pag alala sa nakaraan, kundi isang paalala na ang demokrasya ay hindi minamana nang basta basta. Ito ay ipinaglalaban, pinangangalagaan, at ipinapasa sa susunod na henerasyon.

Sa ika apatnapung anibersaryo ng makasaysayang pag aaklas na ito, nananatiling mahalaga ang aral ng EDSA. Sa panahon ng disimpormasyon at pagkakahati hati, hinihingi ng kasaysayan ang ating pagiging mapanuri at makabayan. Ang katahimikan sa harap ng kamalian ay hindi kailanman naging opsyon; ang pakikibaka para sa katotohanan at katarungan ay tungkulin ng bawat Pilipino.

Nawa ay manatiling buhay ang diwa ng EDSA sa ating mga puso at pagkilos. Sapagkat kapag ang bayan ay nagkakaisa para sa tama at makatarungan, walang puwersang kayang supilin ang kapangyarihan ng demokrasya.

Today we begin the Lenten season, a sacred 40 day journey of prayer, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal as we prepare for Holy Week. The ashes marked on our foreheads serve as a powerful reminder of our humanity, our need for repentance, and our belonging to Christ. They call us to humility and to a deeper reflection on how we live our lives each day.

Today, February 18, 2026, the Bicol University community gathers at the BU Sports Complex New Grandstand for the 9:00 AM Ash Wednesday Holy Mass, marking the solemn beginning of the Lenten season.

Organized by the Bicol University Campus Ministry, this sacred celebration invites students, faculty, and staff to come together in prayer and reflection as one community of faith. The imposition of ashes, forming the symbolic cross on our foreheads, serves as a profound reminder of our humanity and the words from 𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒔 3:19: “𝑹𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒖𝒔𝒕, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒏.”

More than a tradition, the Ash Cross signifies humility, repentance, and spiritual renewal. It calls us to pause from our daily routines, examine our hearts, and realign our lives with faith and purpose. As we begin this 40 day journey commemorating the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, may we open ourselves to transformation by surrendering pride, letting go of what no longer serves us, and choosing compassion and courage.

May this Ash Wednesday not only mark the start of Lent, but also inspire each of us to walk this season with deeper reflection, sincere repentance, and renewed commitment to live out love in its truest form.
