Importance of the Ballot Box in Accepting Members:

The ballot box ensures that every member has an equal voice in the acceptance of a new candidate. Through the use of white and black balls, it provides a secret and unbiased voting system, protecting each member’s decision from pressure or influence. This preserves the dignity of both the voter and the applicant.

A white ball signifies acceptance, goodwill, and trust—showing that the candidate is worthy of joining the fraternity. On the other hand, a black ball represents objection, often used when a member believes the candidate may not uphold the values and principles of the Order.

More importantly, the ballot box symbolizes collective responsibility. Admission is not decided by one person alone but by the harmony and agreement of the group. This strengthens unity and ensures that every new member is accepted with sincerity and confidence.

Lastly, it reflects the core values of the Free Gardeners—honor, discretion, equality, and careful cultivation of character. Just as a gardener carefully selects and nurtures plants, the Order carefully chooses individuals who will grow, contribute, and uphold its traditions.
