From the halls of pharmacy to the foundations of a legacy, Dr. Vivian Que-Azcona’s journey reflects a life of dedication, vision, and service. As we celebrate her birthday, we honor the legacy she helped build through the Dr. Mariano Que College of Pharmacy and the future pharmacists it continues to shape.

On September 1, we celebrate Dr. Vivian Que-Azcona, a pharmacist whose journey was shaped by a life of dedication, leadership, and service. Beyond the titles she held and the milestones she reached, her story is one of a woman who believed that the future of healthcare could be strengthened by investing in the people who would carry it forward.
Her journey began in the halls of the University of Santo Tomas, where she graduated cm laude with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. From there, she stepped into Mercury Drug as a staff assistant, gradually taking on greater responsibilities until she became its president in 1998. Her years in the pharmaceutical industry were marked by a commitment to bringing healthcare closer to the Filipino people. Yet, as her journey progressed, her vision reached beyond the practice of pharmacy itself—to the education and formation of those who would one day serve the same communities.
This vision found a meaningful place at De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute. Through the Mercury Drug Foundation, Dr. Vivian helped open doors for aspiring pharmacists through scholarships, giving students the opportunity to pursue an education that could become the beginning of their own journeys in healthcare. Her commitment to education and healthcare was likewise recognized by DLSMHSI, which honored her with an honorary Doctor of Science Honoris Causa.
But perhaps one of the most enduring chapters of her story can be found within the walls of the Dr. Mariano Que College of Pharmacy. Named after her father, Dr. Mariano Que, the founder of Mercury Drug, the College carries with it a family history deeply rooted in pharmacy. Its development, however, also reflects Dr. Vivian’s own vision—a vision that saw education not simply as a means to earn a profession, but as a way to shape individuals who could bring knowledge, compassion, and service to others.
Today, the college stands as a quiet testament to how far one journey can reach. Its classrooms hold students who are striving to chase their dreams, while its halls carry the name and vision of those who came before them. Every lesson learned, every future pharmacist shaped, and every act of service that begins within its walls becomes another page added to the legacy Dr. Vivian helped build.
And so, on her birthday, we remember Dr. Vivian Que-Azcona not only by looking back, but by looking forward. Happy National Heroes Day! 💚

Today, we honor the Filipinos who dedicated their lives and made sacrifices for our nation. Among them were Antonio Luna, pharmacist and revolutionary hero, and Victoriano Luciano III, pharmacist and one of the 13 martyrs in Cavite who were executed by firing squad for cooperating with the Katipunan.

We also remember the countless heroes in the pharmacy profession—past and present—whose quiet dedication to patient care, education, research, and service continues to make a difference in the lives of Filipinos.

May their courage and commitment remind us that service to others is itself an act of heroism.

Mabuhay ang ating mga bayani! 🇵🇭💚

This National Heroes Day, we honor pharmacist heroes Antonio Luna and Victoriano Luciano, whose courage, service, and patriotism remain part of the proud legacy of Philippine pharmacy.

We also salute today’s modern heroes—pharmacists, healthcare professionals, educators, public servants, frontliners, volunteers, and ordinary Filipinos who continue to serve their communities with dedication and compassion.

Congratulations, DLSMHSI! 💚🏆

A heartfelt congratulations to the DLSMHSI Women’s Employees Volleyball Team for bagging the Championship title in the recently concluded Inter-La Salle Employees Sportsfest 2026, hosted by DLSCSB! This victory marks an incredible four consecutive championship titles for the team—a remarkable testament to their talent, teamwork, and enduring Animo spirit!

A special congratulations to Assoc. Prof. Sumulong, who proudly represented DLSMHSI as one of the team’s players in 2024 and 2026, making this her second championship participation. What an amazing achievement to be part of a team that continues to make history! 🏐🏆

We also proudly recognize Sir Darwin Eusebio, who was part of the DLSMHSI Men’s Employees Basketball Team that secured its 14th championship title this year! This remarkable legacy includes an extraordinary 12 consecutive championships and a back-to-back championship run. Mr. Eusebio has been part of this winning tradition for six years since 2021, contributing his talent, dedication, and Animo spirit to one of DLSMHSI’s most celebrated athletic teams. 🏀🏆

Beyond the court, it is even more special to note that both Assoc. Prof. Sumulong and Sir Eusebio have served as Athlon advisers, with Sir Eusebio currently serving as an adviser. From guiding our students to representing DLSMHSI on the playing field, these two certainly show that the Animo spirit can be both academic and athletic! 💚🏐🏀

And to the entire DLSMHSI delegation, congratulations on securing Overall 1st Runner-Up in the Inter-La Salle Employees Sportsfest 2026! This achievement reflects not only athletic excellence, but also the camaraderie, teamwork, and shared spirit that unite the Lasallian community.

The Inter-La Salle Sportsfest is more than a competition—it is an opportunity for Lasallian institutions to come together, build meaningful partnerships, promote wellness, and strengthen camaraderie beyond the workplace.

We proudly celebrate your successful completion of the 13th IPE Training Course conducted on August 18-21, 2026 at the Gunma University, the WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training on Interprofessional Education.

Your commitment to strengthening Interprofessional Education, advancing collaborative learning, and building capacity for innovative health professions education is truly commendable. May the knowledge, insights, and connections gained from this training continue to inspire meaningful collaboration and excellence in education and healthcare.

Mr. Eusebio joins fellow DMQCP IPE training course completers, including Assoc. Prof. Sumulong, Director of the Center for Interprofessional Education and Practice (CIPEP), and Asst. The Dr. Mariano Que College of Pharmacy (DMQCP) chapter was hailed champions in the Solar Flare Award category in the Federation of Junior Chapters of the Philippine Pharmacists Association (FJCPPhA) Rxcellence 2026, last August 22, at the University of Makati.

The award was granted to JPPhA - DLSMHSI - DMQCP Animo Chapter for their consistent active participation across the multiple competitions hosted by the federation.

“Solar Flare Award is an award that recognizes the most active chapter across the Federation’s various undertakings, based on the cumulative rankings of all chapter schools in the four (4) National Competitions,” Arnel Jr Tolentino, the Federation’s executive secretary and a DMQCP student, said.

Last academic year, the College won back-to-back championships in the Pharmalympics and Pharmacy Quiz Bee, while also maintaining a podium finish for the Pharmacy Debate Competition and Patient Counseling Event.

“It reflected not only excellence in competition, but also the chapter’s consistency of participation and commitment in the Federation with passion and pride just like how the sun never stop[s] burning,” he added.

Even as one of the tabulators for the event, he felt proud when the Animo Chapter was announced as the first placers, with the University of the Philippines and University of Santo Tomas chapters trailing behind.

“I just felt immensely proud for the chapter, especially for the people who sacrificed a lot just for us to participate, compete, and excel in all of the said competitions to continue our streak and make it official this time around,” Tolentino added.

As an outgoing officer of the Federation, Tolentino also expressed enthusiasm toward the incoming batch of student-leaders and hopes that their activities will level up for the coming years.

“Hopefully, there'll be more to consider in future editions since bringing the event back to life since last 22 - 23 mandate was also tough and revamping it to as something grand, this mandate,” he added.

The award was received by Vice Dean Ms. Maria Teresa Basilides, RPh, MS on behalf of the College, joined by several members of the faculty, officers of the JPPhA - DLSMHSI - DMQCP Animo Chapter.

Rxcellence is a national event hosted by FJCPPhA to recognize prominent students from the chapters of pharmacy schools nationwide.

This well-deserved recognition further highlights his commitment to advancing quality pharmacy education, strengthening hospital pharmacy practice, and developing competent and compassionate pharmacy professionals who contribute to safer and better patient care. As we officially open the Academic Year 2026–2027, we also take a moment to close the Academic Year 2025–2026 by celebrating the remarkable achievements of our students, faculty members, and alumni who have represented Dr. Mariano Que College of Pharmacy and De La Salle Medical and Health Science Institute with excellence, dedication, and passion.

Held on August 11, 2026, the awarding ceremony served as a meaningful celebration of the individuals who participated in various academic, professional, and extracurricular activities and brought pride to our institution through their accomplishments and awards. More than recognizing achievements, the ceremony honored the hard work, perseverance, and commitment behind every milestone.

This celebration reflects our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, we recognize the vital role of pharmacy education and practice in developing competent healthcare professionals who contribute to healthier communities. The Dr. Mariano Que College of Pharmacy successfully conducted the 11th Curriculum Evaluation, which served as the 5th Formative Curriculum Evaluation for the BS Pharmacy 2023–2024 Curriculum, on July 14–15, 2026, from 8:30 AM to 5:45 PM at the 4th Floor Accreditation Room.

The second day, July 15, 2026, focused on Pharmaceutical Sciences, with distinguished validators invited to provide their professional expertise and valuable insights in assessing the relevance, quality, and alignment of the curriculum with current developments in pharmaceutical sciences and education.
