The City College of Davao (CCD) has officially earned Institutional Recognition from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), confirming that the college meets all national standards for local tertiary institutions. CCD successfully passed evaluations across four key areas: mandate and purpose, governance, appropriateness of facilities, and sustainability of operations.
Following an online validation in April 2026 and an on-site evaluation in July 2026, this major milestone is a key requirement for CCD to qualify for the Free Higher Education Program under Republic Act 10931 (Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act)โbringing tuition-free, high-quality college education directly to students.

*CHED Grants Institutional Recognition to Two Mindanao Local Colleges*
QUEZON CITY โ The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has granted Institutional Recognition to the City College of Davao (CCD), Davao City, and Colegio de Kapatagan (CdeK), Lanao del Norte, affirming that both local colleges have met the institutional requirements set by the Commission for local colleges.
Institutional Recognition confirms that a local university and college (LUC) has met CHED requirements on four areas of evaluation, particularly on its mandate and purpose, governance, appropriateness of facilities, and sustainability of operations. It is also a requirement for eligibility under the Free Higher Education component of Republic Act No. 10931, or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.
The recognition supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s priority of expanding access to quality education, while ensuring that institutions serving Filipino learners meet appropriate standards. Strengthening local colleges helps bring higher education closer to communities and makes college more accessible to students.
CHED Chairperson Shirley C. Agrupis emphasized that local colleges help bring higher education closer to students, noting that CHED remains committed to supporting their growth while upholding educational quality.
CCD offers undergraduate programs in Early Childhood Education, Entrepreneurship, and Technical-Vocational Teacher Education, with majors in Computer Programming and Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology. Meanwhile, CdeK offers BS Entrepreneurship, BS Criminology, and BS Social Work.
Both CCD and CdeK have secured Certificates of Program Compliance from CHED for their undergraduate degree programs. Their program offerings are geared toward developing knowledge and skills that are relevant to community and local workforce needs.
The grant of Institutional Recognition followed CHEDโs evaluation of both collegesโ compliance with institutional requirements. CCD underwent an online validation in April 2026 and an on-site validation in July, while CdeK underwent an on-site validation in May 2026 and recently submitted documents addressing the observations and recommendations of the validation team.
Following the recognition, CHED will monitor CCD and CdeK annually to ensure their continued compliance with policies and standards. Through the institutional recognition of local universities and colleges, CHED continues to work with local governments to expand educational opportunities while ensuring that institutions meet national standards for quality and sustainability.
