IN PHOTOS | Congratulations to our DHK Master of Science in Human Movement Science (MSHMS) student, Dann Ian Broa for winning Best Oral Presenter in the category "Human Experience: Identity, Mindset and Culture" at the 2026 College of Human Kinetics (CHK) Research Forum in UP Diliman. Their final paper, titled "Exploring Social Media Promotion and Event Service Quality in Pickleball Participation", also serves as their final requirement for the M210 Research Paper course.

Employing a mixed methods approach, their study explored how social relationships, personal motivations, and participation barriers shape pickleball playersโ€™ decisions to join sports events. Furthermore, the research examined the impact of social media promotion and event quality on participant experiences, shedding light on the key drivers of initial engagement and long-term retention.

This achievement is realized in collaboration with fellow MSHMS co-researchers Jay Mark Montalban, Virgilio Rocacorba, Jr., Paul Robert Saladar, and Dianne Salvaleon.

First-year Associate in Arts Sports Studies (1AASS) Pencak Silat student-athletes, Sherbien Godoy, Zach Jairo Bacalaรฑos, and Esperijun Jose Gonlibo secured a haul of 1 gold and 2 silver medals during the ๐’๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐š๐ง ๐‚๐ฎ๐ฉ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ” ๐š๐ง๐ ๐†๐จ๐ฏ. ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐จ ๐. ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐ฒ ๐‰๐ซ. ๐๐ž๐ง๐œ๐š๐ค ๐’๐ข๐ฅ๐š๐ญ ๐ˆ๐ง๐ฏ๐ข๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐“๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ง๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ on 25-26 September 2026 at the Capitol Dome, San Jose, Dinagat Islands.

Stepping onto the mat, Godoy powered through in Class B Tanding category, Bacalaรฑos locked in under Class C Tanding, and Gonlibo holding down Class A Tanding. This makes them the first DHK Pencak Silat student-athletes to compete in the tournament and bring home medals.

IN PHOTOS | Bachelor of Sports Science (BSS) alumna Novy Barba participated as a poster presenter during the ๐๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐‘๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ก ๐…๐จ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ” on 02 October 2026 at the College of Human Kinetics, University of the Philippines Diliman.

With the theme, "FROM FIELD TO FINDINGS III: Translating Sports Science and Physical Education Research into Policy, Practice, and Performance", Barba presented her undergraduate thesis study "From the Field to Independence: A Qualitative Exploration of Sports Participation and Life Skills Transfer Among Care-Leavers".

The study explored how former Alternative Childcare Institutions (ACCI) residents experienced sports and how they perceived the skills gained through sports in their adult lives. It also examined how sports-related life skills are experienced, maintained, and applied by adult care-leavers after leaving institutional care, particularly in Davao City.

Novy is slated to deliver this presentation at the 14th International Conference on Sports and Exercise Science (ICSES) and 12th ASEAN Council of Physical Education and Sports (ACPES) Conference in Bangkok, Thailand this month.

This involvement highlights the dedication of our DHK graduates in pushing the boundaries of sports science and physical education.

Congratulations to our DHK faculty, a/Prof. Annaliza Castro on her recent publication, "Social dancing as embodied practice: Localization and community functions in the southern Philippines" in Jurnal Pendidikan Jasmani dan Olahraga.

This qualitative case study examined how Western-originated social dances were adapted and sustained in the communities across the Southern Philippines, focusing on their roles in physical activity, social connection, and cultural continuity. The findings indicate that social dancing functions as an accessible physical recreation while also supporting cultural transmission and community cohesion.

Jurnal Pendidikan Jasmani dan Olahraga (JPJO) is a peer-reviewed journal published in Departemen Pendidikan Olahraga, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia and focused on Physical Education, physical activity, sports education, health and nutrition.

Congratulations to our very own DHK faculty, Prof. Raisalam Angoy and all the other authors on their recent publication, "Coaching behaviors that matter: Predicting life skills development among university athletes" in SPORTIS: Scientific Journal of School Sport, Physical Education and Psychomotricity.

Using a predictive correlational research design, this study examined the relationship between coaching behaviors and life skills development among university athletes and identified which coaching behaviors predict specific life skills outcomes.

SPORTIS is an international, peer-reviewed journal published in Spain and focused on Physical Education, Sports Sciences, and Psychomotricity. It i currently indexed in both Scopus and Web of Science.

Congratulations to the Associate in Arts Sports Studies (AASS) and Bachelor of Sports Science (BSS) programs for earning 2ND RUNNER-UP for the Freshmen Presentation during Torch Night 2026.
