Brod Atty. Crisostomo โTomโ Asoy Uribe and Brod Atty. Dan Peruelo Calica served as Examiners in the 2024 Bar Examinations administered by the Philippine Supreme Court on 8, 11 and 15 September 2024, the results of which were released on 13 December 2024.
๐๐๐๐. ๐ง๐ผ๐บ ๐จ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฒ was a Bar Examiner in Civil Law, while ๐๐๐๐. ๐๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ served as a Bar Examiner in Criminal Law in in honor of Supreme Court Associate Justice Mario Villamor Lopez, the 2024 Bar Examinations Chairperson.
๐ผ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฎ. ๐๐ง๐๐๐, a native of Tunga, Leyte, graduated in the top ten percent of his class in the University of the Philippines College of Law (โUP College of Lawโ) in 1990. He was a grantee of the Owen White Scholarship and Alex B. Reyes Scholarship.
Atty. Uribe is an acknowledged expert in Civil Law and is currently the Vice Chairman of the Civil Law Department of the Philippine Judicial Academy. He heads the Civil Law Department of the Arellano University School of Law. He previously served as Chief of Staff for Adjudication of former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P. A. Sereno in the Philippine Supreme Court.
He has taught various Civil Law subjects for more than thirty (30) years in various law schools, including the UP College of Law, Ateneo de Manila University School of Law, Arellano University School of Law, San Sebastian College-Recoletos College of Law, Lyceum of the Philippines University College of Law, De La Salle University College of Law, University of Makati School of Law, Polytechnic University of the Philippines College of Law, and University of Sto. Tomas College of Law.
Atty. Uribe is a Bar Reviewer in Civil Law in multiple laws schools and review centers nationwide. He has therefore trained and prepared thousands of law students and bar takers throughout the country.
He is a member of the Experts Panel of the U.P. Law Center in Civil Law, which prepares and submits suggested answers to Bar questions to the Philippine Supreme Court. He is likewise a MCLE Lecturer for the UP Law Center and the Arellano Law Foundation.
In recognition of his expertise in Civil Law, Atty. Uribe was tapped as a member of the Technical Working Group for the Creation of a Commission for the Codification of Laws of the House of Representatives.
Atty. Uribe obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree, Major in Philosophy in the University of the Philippines in Diliman, where he became a member of the Pi Sigma Fraternity. He served as its Lord Excelsius in 1988 and is currently the Chairperson of the Supreme Council of Sigmans.
๐ผ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฎ. ๐ฟ๐๐ฃ ๐. ๐พ๐๐ก๐๐๐ graduated Valedictorian of Class 2000 of the UP College of Law and joined the Philippine Bar in May 2001.
A native of Kidapawan City in Cotabato Province, Atty. Calica is currently the Managing Partner of the Abellera and Calica Law Offices.
Atty. Calica was the Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Philippine Law Journal of the U.P. College of Law for the School Year 1997-1998 and was a recipient of the Deanโs Medal for Academic Excellence in 2000 and Award for Excellence in Academics for School Year 1996-1997, 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 by the U.P. Law Class 1972. Atty. Calica was also a consistent member of the Order of the Purple Feather, the Honor Society of the U.P. College of Law, and a beneficiary of the Chief Justice Fred Ruiz Castro and Justice Malcolm Trust Fund Scholarships.
Atty. Calica has taught in several law schools for the last twenty (20) years, including Public Utilities and Transportation Law, Civil Procedure, Criminal Law 1 and 2 and Criminal Law Review in the U.P. College of Law, De La Salle University Taรฑada-Diokno College of Law and Angeles University Foundation School of Law. He previously taught at the Lyceum of the Philippines and Master in Business Administration โ Law Dual Program of the De La Salle University and Far Eastern University Institute of Law.
He was a member of the Code of Crimes Committee of the U.P. Law Center which drafted and submitted to the House of Representatives a new Code of Crimes in January 2023.
Atty. Calica is a seasoned litigator and co-founded the Abellera & Calica Law Offices in August 2013 and is currently its Managing Partner. He was previously a Senior Associate of the Poblador Bautista and Reyes Law Offices and the head of the Litigation and Labor Departments of the Carag Zaballero San Pablo Calica and Abiera Law Offices.
Atty. Calica acquired his Bachelor of Arts, Major in the English Language Degree in the University of the Philippines in Diliman, where he became a member of the Pi Sigma Fraternity in November 1986. He became its Lord Excelsius and currently serves as Trustee of the Board of Trustees of the Pi Sigma Fraternity Alumni Association, Inc.
Attys. Uribe and Calica were the only UP law graduates who served as Bar Examiners in , which was chaired by San Beda cm laude graduate, Justice Lopez. UP law graduates produced several bar topnotchers, including Nos. 1, 4, 5 and 6.
๐ฝ๐ค๐ฉ๐ ๐ผ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐จ. ๐๐ง๐๐๐ ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐พ๐๐ก๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฅ๐๐ก๐ก๐๐ง๐จ ๐ค๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ข๐ ๐๐ง๐๐ฉ๐๐ง๐ฃ๐๐ฉ๐ฎ. They served as Lord Excelsius, the head, of the UP Diliman Chapter of the fraternity in different years, served also as President and Chair of the Pi Sigma Fraternity Alumni Association, Inc., and conceptualized and founded the annual UP Pi Sigma Fraternity Open Debate Tournament, which was the longest-running debate tournament in UP Diliman. #
