Ateneo de Davao Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) Program conducts its 1st BSA Research Dissemination.
By: Ms. Ruth Chew, CPA

With the theme: "Research! Accounting Ideas, Igniting Innovations," the AdDU BSA Program held its first Research Dissemination yesterday, March 4, 2026, at the Finster Auditorium, Jacinto Campus.

Dr. Cleofe A. Arib, CPA, CBRE Director and Research Coordinator of the Program, opened the event, emphasizing the roles of accountants in society, transitioning from silent keepers of accounting knowledge to public creators and contributors through research.

She further highlighted the research journey of the BSA students that evolved from accounting ideas in the classroom to the community in pursuit of service, transparency, and truth.

Before the breakout sessions, Lysa Faye C. Balo, a 4th-year BSA student, shared an engaging research journey experience with humility and pride, carrying courage and perseverance throughout the team's learning adventure.

In her closing message, Ms. Maria Corazon C. Gabayan, MBA, CPA, Chair of the BSA Program, expressed her proud moment for this significant milestone, which she described as Eloquentia Perfecta. A Latin term meaning perfect eloquence, narrating the students' research journey not only to contribute to the body of knowledge but, more importantly, as a service to the common good.

Breakout rooms on the 7th floor were provided for the four research output clusters: (1) Accounting Infromation System & Technology Adoption, (2) Financial Accounting & Corporate Finance, (3) Auditing & Professional Practice, and (4) Accounting Education & Career Development, where 4th-year students had the opportunity to present their findings and for the 3rd-year students and industry partners to share their insights, reactions, and suggestions, making the activity more enriching.

AdDU BSA thanks all who made its 1st Research Dissemination a success. Special thanks to the representatives of Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc., Davao Doctors Hospital, P&A Grant Thornton, Reyes Tacandong & Co., SGV & Co., Fuentes & Co., CPAs, and fellow educators from the University of Mindanao and AdDU SBG. SBG in Action: Transforming Business Education into Community Solidarity
By: Mx. Elle Sumatra

The School of Business and Governance (SBG) joined the Ateneo de Davao University community for the formal opening of “Where Hope Takes Form: A Gallery of Service-Learning, Solidarity, and Hope in Action” on February 24, 2026. The SBG delegation, headed by Dean Margie J. Clavano, DBA, CPA, stood alongside university leaders to celebrate the profound impact of the Service-Learning Program (S-LP). For SBG, this gallery is a testament to how academic excellence in business and public sectors is leveraged to answer the call for social justice.

At the core of SBG’s participation is the belief that education must be transformative and responsive. The S-LP serves as a vital avenue for students to see the direct relevance of their specialized fields to the needs of marginalized communities, aiming to awaken a deep sense of mission in future business leaders. The integration of S-LP is currently thriving across several SBG programs, including BS Finance, BS Human Resource Development and Management, BS Marketing, Bachelor of Public Management, and the Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony led by University President Rev. Fr. Karel S. San Juan, SJ, and esteemed community leaders, Dean Clavano and the SBG faculty joined the gallery walk to reflect on the stories of encounter captured in the exhibit. For SBG students, this journey means applying marketing strategies, financial planning, and public management principles while walking in solidarity with the community. The gallery stands as a living witness to the idea that business education is about becoming persons for others.

Horizons Converge: SBG Scholars Transcend Disciplinary Boundaries
by: Mx. Elle Sumatra

The Training Room of the CCFC Building became a hub of intellectual synthesis on February 18, 2026, as the School of Business and Governance (SBG) hosted the Horizons Converge: SBG Research Colloquium 2026. This year’s theme, "Transcending Divergence," reflected an understanding of how excellence emerges in business and governance education by synthesizing varied perspectives into cohesive solutions. The colloquium, spearheaded by the Ateneo Marketing Club (AMARC) in partnership with the SBG and the University Research Council, moved beyond competitive evaluation to provide a non-competitive platform for knowledge sharing. It celebrated exemplary undergraduate research that had already undergone rigorous selection within each department, allowing students to bridge differences and connect ideas.

The event featured diverse scholarly outputs, including comprehensive thesis research and implemented business proposals that demonstrated the practical application of academic knowledge in real-world contexts. Each program showcased work that represented its unique methodological approach, starting with the BS Accountancy study titled "Stock Price Reaction to Mergers and Acquisitions Deal Announcements of Selected Philippine Publicly Listed Companies: An Event Study Approach for the Periods 2018-2024." The BS Business Management program presented A Conjoint Analysis of the Preferred Digital Marketing Approaches for Coffee Shops Among Gen Z College Students in Davao City. For the BS Finance program, the research focused on The Relationship Between Subjective Norms, Attitudes, and Perceived Behavioral Control and the Intention to Purchase Real Estate Among the College Faculty Members in Ateneo de Davao University.

The BS Human Resource Development and Management program explored The Influence of Workload, Training and Development, and Compensation and Benefits on the Job Performance of Budgetary Employees in the Department of Public Works and Highways – Regional Office XI. In the field of Marketing, the presentation was titled A Conjoint Analysis of Preferred Chocolate Product Attributes for Local Chocolatiers Among Gen Z College Students in the First District of Davao City. Rounding out the presentations, the Bachelor of Public Management program provided a Rapid Assessment on the Flood Mitigation Strategies of the Local Government Unit of Davao City: A Basis for Policy Formulation.

The event was graced by the presence of Dean Margie J. Clavano, DBA, CPA. The program included an overview of guidelines by AMARC President Hyacinth Dulduo Lao and concluded with an open forum for cross-disciplinary discussion. The colloquium ended with the giving of certificates and recognition led by Marketing Department Chairperson Ms. Roneliza Emelyn J. Lardroma, MBA, alongside student leaders from various SBG organizations. By bridging these diverse academic horizons, the colloquium reinforced the university's commitment to cultivating leaders who appreciate multiple forms of excellence.

SBG Journal reLaunch
By: Dr. Cleofe A. Arib, CPA

So excited and genuinely happy to share that the SBG Research Journal is officially back! 🎉✨

This revival means we now have a platform where students, SBG faculty, business practitioners, and industry movers can share their research and ideas—and that alone is something worth celebrating.

It’s also a great example of how Teaching, Research, and Community (TRC) come to life under Fortiores 2030 of AdDU. Research that matters, shared with the people who can actually use it. 💙

Huge THANK YOU to our peer reviewers for their time and expertise, our alumni and industry partners for their article contributions, to the AdDU administrators for all the support, and to my awesome co-members of the Editorial Board—this was truly a team effort.

Looking forward to more quality publications, stronger collaborations, and (claiming it now!) a future where the SBG Research Journal becomes a recognized indexed journal. 🙏✨
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam. 💙

Family Business: Not Your Average “Business as Usual”

Running a business is challenging, but running one with your family is a completely different experience. The Ateneo de Manila University – Family Business Development Center, through Director Dr. Pilar U. Tolentino, introduced the uniqueness of family firms and their involvement in the overlap of three distinct systems: Family, Ownership, and Business Operations. This intersection means that a family business is never truly “business as usual.”

The event was attended by both SBG Undergraduate and Graduate Students, together with their family members, in celebration of the SBG Week 2026 at the Miguel Pro Multipurpose Room, 2nd Floor, CCFC Building.

Hosted by the Public Management and the Human Resource Development and Management Departments, SBG opened its celebration, themed "Transcending Divergence," on February 16, 2026, with a mass celebration followed by the Faction Showcase and SBG Fair, at Arrupe Hall, with SBG administrators, students, and non-teaching personnel in attendance.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Michelle Rose M. Juadiong, Chair of the Human Resource Development and Management Department, thanked the efforts of the SBG Community, especially the organizers and students who have been supporting the annual gathering and celebration that showcases students' leadership, talents, and skills.
