*CHED Grants Institutional Recognition to Two Mindanao Local Colleges*

QUEZON CITY – The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has granted Institutional Recognition to the City College of Davao (CCD), Davao City, and Colegio de Kapatagan (CdeK), Lanao del Norte, affirming that both local colleges have met the institutional requirements set by the Commission for local colleges.

Institutional Recognition confirms that a local university and college (LUC) has met CHED requirements on four areas of evaluation, particularly on its mandate and purpose, governance, appropriateness of facilities, and sustainability of operations. It is also a requirement for eligibility under the Free Higher Education component of Republic Act No. 10931, or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.

The recognition supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s priority of expanding access to quality education, while ensuring that institutions serving Filipino learners meet appropriate standards. Strengthening local colleges helps bring higher education closer to communities and makes college more accessible to students.

CHED Chairperson Shirley C. Agrupis emphasized that local colleges help bring higher education closer to students, noting that CHED remains committed to supporting their growth while upholding educational quality.

CCD offers undergraduate programs in Early Childhood Education, Entrepreneurship, and Technical-Vocational Teacher Education, with majors in Computer Programming and Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology. Meanwhile, CdeK offers BS Entrepreneurship, BS Criminology, and BS Social Work.

Both CCD and CdeK have secured Certificates of Program Compliance from CHED for their undergraduate degree programs. Their program offerings are geared toward developing knowledge and skills that are relevant to community and local workforce needs.

The event became a celebration of 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩, 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭, and 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 as students showcased their creativity, passion, and teamwork through various exciting competitions. We are excited to announce the submission and filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) for the Supreme Student Government (SSG) Representatives Election for Academic Year 2026–2027.

📍 Venue: Student Center (Conference Room)

Interested candidates are required to submit their Certificate of Candidacy (COC) together with their General Plan of Action (GPOA) during the designated filing period.

These are the following positions:
• 1st Year Representative of Bachelor of Early Childhood Education
• 1st year Representative of Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education
• 1st year Representative of Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship

This is an important opportunity for students who are willing to serve, represent, and advocate for the interests of the student body. Leadership is not simply about holding a position; it is about taking responsibility, listening to your fellow students, and turning your vision for the student community into meaningful action.

Reminders:

The filing and submission of COCs will be conducted ONLY ON AUGUST 03, 2026. There will be no additional filing day, so interested candidates are strongly encouraged to prepare their requirements in advance and submit them within the designated time.

The Bachelor of Technical Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTED) and Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECED) programs of City College of Davao successfully conducted their Field Study Pre-Deployment Orientation and Seminar on July 20, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at the Covered Court and Social Hall of City College of Davao.

The seminar equipped students with essential knowledge, expectations, and professional guidelines as they prepare for their upcoming field study immersion. It served as a vital step in bridging classroom learning with real-world teaching experience, reinforcing the values of responsibility, professionalism, and dedication expected of future educators.

During the BTVTED General Orientation for First-Year and Transferee Students, College President Dr. Wenefredo E. Cagape, EdD, PhD, delivered a heartfelt message welcoming our newest scholars to the Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education program.

In his message, Dr. Cagape reminded students that choosing BTVTED is a meaningful decision — one that prepares them to teach not only with knowledge, but with skill and heart. He encouraged them to take pride in their program, recognizing its vital role in nation-building, and assured them that they are now part of a community that believes in their potential.
