“The Filipino is worth dying for.” 🎗

Former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. was honored for his unconditional love for the Philippines and its countrymen through Republic Act No. 9256, declaring August 21 as “Ninoy Aquino Day” and a non-working holiday.

In 1983 on the same day, Aquino returned to the Philippines after he underwent a heart surgery in the United States. Even though he was fully aware of the risks, he came home and was ultimately gunned down at Manila International Airport (now Ninoy Aquino International Airport).

Today, Aquino is remembered and a reminder to lead with a purpose, stand injustice, ask for accountability for the country and people. It is also to demonstrate patriotism, a core value of a Nationalian.

The official celebration of Ninoy Aquino Day as a national non-working holiday began in 2004, when President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed Republic Act No. 9256 on February 25, 2004, making August 21 an annual commemoration of the late senator’s death.

May we honor Ninoy Aquino’s sacrifice by living with courage, serving our country, and standing by what is right.

ICYMI: National University Highlights Legacy through Service Excellence Awards

National University celebrated the institution’s journey and achievements through the “Gintong Pamana, Bughaw na Karangalan” Service Excellence Awards 2026.

In line with its 126th founding anniversary, NU honored the individuals and departments behind the University’s success stories, recognizing years of dedicated service spanning 5 to 30 years, as well as research milestones, faculty expertise, administrative support, and embodiment of the University’s core values.

For the NU Outstanding Values (OVAL) Awards, Jay U. Sargento (NU Lipa) championed Patriotism, Nesiel O. Manalo (NU Lipa) reflected Compassion, Rishirl A. Cuario (NU Manila) demonstrated Resilience, and Cyrus Rj W. Robles (NU Manila) exemplified Innovation.

Campuses were likewise recognized for their licensure examination performance, CHED micro-credentials, stewardship and governance, human capital development, quality policy, and overall journey toward excellence.

Among the notable awards were the Campus of the Year titles. Under the respective categories, NU Clark was named Momentum Builders, NU Baliwag received the Growth Accelerators title, and NU Manila was recognized as Legacy Leaders.

Additionally, the NU Legacy Office opened another chapter in the institution’s history with the launch of the commemorative book, “The Nationalian: Legacies, Heroes, Warriors.”

With this year’s theme, “Shaping Leaders, Strengthening the Nation,” NU reaffirms its commitment to developing promising individuals and contributing to nation-building through excellence, service, and leadership.

NU Davao joins DAPRISA 2026 for the first time, bringing a delegation of student-athletes to today’s opening ceremonies at the Almendras Gymnasium. A number of Nationalian athletes took part in this year’s competition, representing NU Davao alongside private schools across Davao City.

The delegation was headed by Executive Director Edwin J. Loma, with SHS Principal Kay Rica A. Palma, SDAO Senior Supervisor Sheila Dawn M. Nisperos, and Admissions Coordinator Joshua Noel M. Cagas.

A first for NU Davao, and hopefully the first of many.
