UP Omega Alpha is a University of the Philippines-based fraternity and sorority founded on the principle of “Service for the People and Country.” It aims to promote camaraderie among brothers and sisters in the context of social awareness, to develop the members’ well-being, and to contribute for the betterment of the larger society. The organization was founded in 1995 after the summer of violenc
e among several gangs and fraternities called “Bloody Summer.” Realizing the need for a fraternity and sorority that shall embody the true essence of brotherhood and sisterhood without resorting to any form of violence, the UP Omega Alpha was born. The name “Omega Alpha” comes from the Greek words “Omega” which means ‘end’ and “Alpha” which means ‘beginning’. The name embodies the family’s aim to end the notion of violence among fraternities and sororities and to begin the age of defining the true essence of brotherhood and sisterhood – to have a harmonious relationship among fraternities and sororities and to exist for “Service to the People and Country.”
