At DMMA College of Southern Philippines, we honor the people who helped make greater opportunities for our students possible.
The college held the Mission Building Naming and Plaque Unveiling Ceremony in honor and loving memory of Engr. Carmelo Villegas Mission, whose generosity helped lay the foundation for a growing community of learners.
Years before DMMA became the institution it is today, Engr. Mission owned a portion of the land where the college now stands. Believing in the value of education, he sold the property to the institution at a remarkably low price—an act of generosity that helped make room for classrooms, opportunities, and the dreams of generations of students.
That meaningful gesture also marked the beginning of a lasting relationship between the Mission family and DMMA. Through the years, the family has remained part of the college’s journey, witnessing how a piece of land became a place where young people could learn, grow, and prepare for their future.
Today, the building housing the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) Program proudly bears the name Mission Building. For aspiring maritime professionals, it is more than a learning space. It carries the story of a man who believed that investing in education could make a difference beyond his lifetime.
Joining the celebration were Engr. Mission’s children, grandchildren, cousins, and in-laws, together with the college incorporators, Board of Trustees, administrators, faculty, staff, and distinguished guests.
As DMMA continues to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and values for their chosen professions, we remain grateful to those who helped make this work possible. Honoring Engr. Mission’s legacy is also a reaffirmation of our commitment to making education a pathway to opportunity.
To the Mission family, thank you for being part of DMMA’s story. His generosity helped give our students a place to begin—and his legacy will remain part of the futures they build.
