The Tuklas Science Education Masterclass 2026 successfully brought together incoming, current, and graduate Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) Science students for an inspiring virtual learning session. Led by Mr. Tristan Leome N. B. Montemorโa multidisciplinary artist and conservation biologistโthe lecture explored the profound theme: "What the Foot Feels, the Heart Remembers: How Immersive Nature Experiences Bridge the Gap Between Field Data and Human Empathy."
Throughout the session, Mr. Montemor emphasized that truly understanding nature goes far beyond collecting scientific data. He explained that immersive experiences in natural environments help develop deep empathy, strengthen environmental awareness, and connect us with biodiversity. He encouraged our future educators to recognize that meaningful conservation begins with appreciating nature through firsthand experiences. โ โThis message resonated deeply with attendees, sparking reflections on how they will approach environmental science in their future classrooms.
Reflecting on the event's success, BSEd Science participant John Paul Suico shared: โ โ"The webinar brilliantly highlighted the significance of preserving our nature. Mr. Montemor demonstrated practical ways to appreciate nature without leaving human traces, showing us just how interconnected all living beings are on Earth. It left a massive impact on our perspective about nature and its profound beauty."
Ultimately, the 2026 Tuklas Masterclass reinforced the critical role of science, education, and community engagement in building a sustainable future. By showing future educators how to bridge the gap between rigorous scientific data and emotional empathy, the event has equipped them to inspire the next generation of eco-conscious students. Supported and funded by the HCDC Center for Linkages, Internationalization and Language Studies, the Tuklas lecture series continues to empower future educators by connecting academic research with community impact.
