โ€œMa, ngayo ko baonโ€”โ€
we both said in unison from opposite sides of the house.

โ€œNganong mangayo naman sad mo?โ€ she sighed.

โ€œKay muskwela naman ko!โ€ my sister answered proudly, already wearing her bag.

โ€œKay kinahanglan nakong mu-survive,โ€ I muttered from the corner, looking like a sleep paralysis demon sponsored by caffeine and deadlines.

My sister skipped out the door full of excitement, fresh notebooks in hand, eyes still sparkling. Meanwhile, I stood there carrying the emotional burden of final exams, unfinished requirements, and at least three breakdowns scheduled for this week alone.

But laban lang, Yano. Two weeks nalang. The end is near. The semester has already taken our sleep, sanity, social life, and probably a few years off our lifespan, so we might as well finish strong.

So hereโ€™s to surviving this final hurrah of finals week โ€” one breakdown, one iced coffee, and one โ€œbahala naโ€ at a time. Kaya nato ni.

The Supreme Quasi-Judicial Student Court under the Obrero Student Councilโ€“House of Representatives (OSC-HoR) has ordered the impeachment of former College of Information and Computing (CIC) Local Council Governor Hanah Julan Castaรฑeda after a unanimous 14โ€“0 conviction on three impeachment articles arising from the HUDYAKA 2026 masterlist-related disqualifications.

In Approved Judicial Ruling No. 03-05012026, promulgated on May 1, 2026, the court found Castaรฑeda liable for negligence of duties, culpable violations of the 2025 OSC Codes and By-Laws, and betrayal of public trust, ruling that her failure to discharge executive and documentary obligations impaired CIC studentsโ€™ representation and participation in the campus-wide intramurals.

The case originated from an April 11 impeachment complaint filed by CIC Local Council and Undergraduate students before the Office of the House Chairperson.

The complaint alleged that Castaรฑeda failed to comply with the procedural, documentary, and representational requirements attached to the HUDYAKA 2026 masterlist submission process, leading to the disqualification of CIC contingents in cheerdance, Danza en Cuatro, and womenโ€™s volleyball.

Upon preliminary assessment, the Impeachment Committee and Oversight Committee found the complaint sufficient in form and substance and elevated three articles of impeachment to the student court.

The case was docketed under PJR No. 00004-2026, with the CIC Local Council and CIC undergraduate students recognized as petitioners.

During adjudication, the prosecution argued that Castaรฑeda failed to exercise executive due diligence and administrative compliance as local council governor. It cited lapses in preparing, securing, endorsing, and routing essential council documents, including the Annual Procurement Plan, Project Procurement Management Plan, Work and Financial Plan, activity design, and other official records required to support CICโ€™s participation in institution-wide events.

The ruling stated that Castaรฑeda withdrew her right to defense after failing to appear personally or designate an authorized representative before the impeachment court.

With no rebuttal, controverting evidence, or defense memorandum entered on record, the tribunal proceeded to evaluate the prosecutionโ€™s submissions.

In its findings, the court held that the prosecution established the charges beyond reasonable doubt, concluding that Castaรฑedaโ€™s omissions constituted gross neglect of duty, actionable breach of mandate, culpable violation of governing provisions, and betrayal of public trust.

The tribunal further clarified that liability for the disqualification fallout did not attach to the CIC Local Council, the Executive Department, or the affected undergraduate students. Instead, it placed accountability on Castaรฑeda as the official vested with the mandate to represent CIC students, protect their institutional interests, and ensure compliance with HUDYAKA 2026 requirements.

Following the conviction, Castaรฑeda was ordered to immediately cease all functions as former CIC LC Governor. The court also directed CIC LC Secretary Kristina Amielle Bernadette Vergara to assume the governorship after taking her oath of office and formally undertaking the duties prescribed under the 2025 OSC Codes and By-Laws.

The ruling likewise barred the CIC LC Vice Governor from succession after finding that she failed to submit the required certification of willingness to assume office, pursuant to Approved House Bill No. 2, series of 2026.

Fourteen justices voted to convict, while five associate justicesโ€”Abelo, Galas, Rubia, Pitoc, and Espinosaโ€”were recorded absent and did not participate in the vote. The decision was digitally signed by Chief Justice Eduardo M. Sato Jr. at 10:45 p.m. on May 1.

โ€œRest assured that the HoR and this Court will serve as protectors and guardians of the student body. May this impeachment trial serve as a warning to those student leaders who dare neglect and abuse their power, and a call to students that we are here to protect them, whatever comes in our way,โ€ Sato expressed.

As cited in the 2025 OSC CBL, Article IX, Section 1, the OSC-HoR is granted the power of impeachment over internal matter complaints.

"The legislative functions are vested in the House of Representatives and shall also be vested with limited judicial power over internal matters, including impeachment proceedings, disciplinary actions, and internal grievances. This shall consist of the members of the colleges proportionate to the number of populations, representatives from the sectors which are composed of, but not limited to, the clubs and organizations, and the mayoralty sector, except to the extent reserved to the people by the provision on initiative, laws, and referendum," the section reads.

The ruling remains final and irrevocable unless a formal appeal supported by sufficient grounds is filed on or before May 8, 2026.

The University of Southeastern Philippinesโ€™ College of Education (CEd) secured national recognition after Team NINCHI, composed of members of the Guild of English Major Students (GEMS), was named among the Top 10 teams in the Learning and Education category at the HABI 4.0 Workshop held on April 28, 2026, at Diamond Hotel Manila, in line with the 2026 National Innovation Day Celebration.

The team is composed of Ian M. Quibete, Crestian Jhon P. Dalumbar, and Raiza R. Bayacag, with the support of Dr. Eden Stephanie B. Bolido, mentors Engr. Elpedio Menendez Corbeta Jr. and Engr. Francis Louise Yap, who also served as adviser.

The national placement came shortly after team was hailed as the recent champion of the AGILab Innovation Pitching Competition during HUDYAKA 2026, where the group first presented its AI-powered educational platform.

Dr. Eden Stephanie B. Bolido, who helped pave the way for the students and guided them throughout their national innovation journey, emphasized that NINCHI should be viewed not as a substitute for teachers, but as a meaningful companion in language education.

โ€œI see a future for language education where NINCHI walks beside usโ€”not as a replacement, but as a compassionate partner who understands the weight of a teacherโ€™s work. By gently lifting the burdens of repetitive pedagogy and routine assessment, NINCHI gives future educators the time, energy, and heart to truly connect with their studentsโ€™ struggles and sparks of growth,โ€ Bolido affirmed.

She added that the platform goes beyond technological advancement, stressing that its deeper purpose lies in restoring the human center of education.

โ€œThis is not just about smarter tools, but about reclaiming the soul of teaching: guiding each learner with patience, creativity, and the quiet confidence that we no longer have to do it all alone,โ€ she furthered.

NINCHI is a web-based, AI-powered platform designed to help teachers manage overcrowded classrooms by transforming uploaded materialsโ€”such as videos, PDFs, and imagesโ€”into interactive learning modules with discussions and quizzes. Built around the reality of classes with 70 to 75 students, the platform aims to make instruction more engaging, personalized, and manageable without replacing the teacherโ€™s role.

Team NINCHIโ€™s Top 10 finish at HABI 4.0 cements CEdโ€™s place in national education innovation. Fresh from its AGILab championship, NINCHI advances as a student-led, AI-powered solution built not to replace teachers, but to finally give them room to breathe.

The University Student Governmentโ€“Commission on Elections (USG ComElec) recorded no submissions of Certificates of Candidacy (COC) during the official filing period held from April 6 to 15 for the USG Elections for Academic Year 2026โ€“2027.

In an official Facebook post, the Commission announced that the filing period concluded without a single candidate, despite calls for qualified students to step forward and take on leadership roles.

With no aspirants filing within the prescribed timeframe, the Commission is set to conduct an evaluation and determine the appropriate course of action in accordance with existing election laws, rules, and regulations.

The USG ComElec also emphasized the importance of student involvement, expressing hope that the situation would serve as a reminder of the crucial role of participation, leadership responsibility, and collective commitment in sustaining genuine student governance.

The 41st Council of Clubs and Organizations (CCO) held the 3-kilometer CCOmmunity Run last April 23, at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) Obrero Campus.

The run officially started within the university grounds, where participants took on the 3-kilometer route around Obrero with enthusiasm and competitive spirit.

Along the course and especially near the finish line, the atmosphere was filled with excitement as bubbles floated in the air and participants were welcomed with playful water gun activities, turning the run into both a fitness challenge and a celebratory experience.

The 41st CCO expressed deep appreciation for the strong participation, emphasizing that every step taken contributed to the chosen beneficiary of the event.

The celebration continued after the run, as participants joined the Color Burst Party, where vibrant powder colors filled the air, marking the final highlight of the three-day CCOmmuniFest 2026.
