The College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM), through the initiative of the Hospitality and Tourism Student Council (HoTSC), held a recognition ceremony and tribute to parents with the theme, โAiming Beyond: Honoring the Journey, Celebrating the Triumph,โ at the Quirino State University (QSU) Gymnasium,May 14.
The event gathered a total of 158 graduating students, composed of 110 Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) students and 48 Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) students, together with their proud parents and guardians who witnessed the celebration of academic achievements and perseverance.
The program formally opened with welcome remarks from Maricel Barroga, BSTM Program Chairperson, who warmly welcomed the graduates and their families.
It was followed by a congratulatory message from Romiro G. Bautista, Vice President for Academic, Research, and Extension of Quirino State University.
Bautista emphasized the importance of dedication, hard work, and sacrifices that led the students to their success, while also recognizing the unwavering support and efforts of the parents throughout their academic journey.
Afterwards, Elaisa Latupan, Guest Speaker, delivered a heartfelt message encouraging graduates to remain resilient and continue showing up for their dreams, especially during difficult times and challenges they may encounter in the future.
"One of the underrated achievement in life is to show up, so continue to show up everyday", said Latupan.
A significant part of the ceremony was the awarding of deserving students who excelled in academics, leadership, service, and extracurricular activities. Together with their parents, the graduates proudly received various recognitions, including the Academic Excellence Award, OJT Completion Award, Student Leadership Award, Best Practicum Award, Best Trainee Award, Journalist of the Year Award, Service Excellence Award, and Athlete of the Year Award.
Following the intermission number, top-performing students from both programs delivered inspirational messages to their fellow graduates. Mary Grace Ballaniyan of the BSHM program and Hannah Kyla Grace Lopez of the BSTM program reflected on their academic journey, encouraging their batchmates to continue striving for excellence while expressing gratitude for the sacrifices and unconditional support of their parents.
In response, parents of the awardees, Manuel N. Ballaniyan and Flordeliza F. Lopez, shared heartfelt messages of pride and appreciation, making the ceremony even more meaningful and emotional for both students and families.
Meanwhile, John Rey Afaten, a Hospitality Management student, led the wine toasting ceremony, symbolizing success, gratitude, and hope for the graduatesโ future endeavors in the hospitality and tourism industry.
The program concluded with closing remarks from Andrei Josef Guiamoy, BSTM Batch Adviser, who left the graduates with two important words to carry as they move forward in life: experience and connection.
"Make experiences... do not leave the connections you have right now with your friends", said Guiamoy.
He reminded students that beyond academic achievements, the relationships they build and the lessons they gain will guide them toward future success.
The recognition ceremony not only celebrated the accomplishments of the graduating students but also honored the invaluable role of parents in their educational journey. More than an academic milestone, the event reflected CHTMโs commitment to nurturing competent, passionate, and service-oriented professionals who are ready to make their mark in the tourism and hospitality industry.
