Four more years! โš™๏ธ๐ŸŒป

We are pleased to share that the undergraduate program of the UP Diliman Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), has been granted four (4) years of accreditation, covering AY 2025โ€“2026 through AY 2028โ€“2029.

The accreditation follows the programโ€™s Interim Review, including the on-site visit conducted on March 23โ€“24, 2026. The program was assessed and evaluated by the Philippine Technological Council (PTC) Evaluation Team, with the findings reviewed and moderated by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) and the accreditation action decided upon by the Accreditation & Certification Board for Engineering & Technology (ACBET).

The approved accreditation action noted no deficiency, weakness, or concern and recognized the satisfactory actions undertaken by the program in response to findings from the previous accreditation review. The four-year accreditation extends through the programโ€™s next General Comprehensive Review.

The Department thanks its faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners whose continued work and support contribute to the quality of mechanical engineering education at UP Diliman.

โ€œTwo UP Diliman (UPD) projects to help dialysis and stroke patients with their quality of life have bagged two of the top three prizes in the โ€˜2026 James Dyson Award Philippines.โ€™

โ€œBiDaKidney by Andew Jacob Buensalido and Allyson Cabrestante and OrthoFlex by Jabez Bote and Ada Koreen Bacay emerged as the national winner and national runner-up, respectively, in the Philippine competition. These projects are creations of the UPD Department of Mechanical Engineering.โ€

BiDaKidney is a low-cost, semi-automated peritoneal dialysis machine designed to make automated peritoneal dialysis more accessible. The project offers an affordable alternative to existing automated systems while working with widely available peritoneal dialysis sets.

The ๐‰๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ฌ ๐ƒ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง ๐€๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐ is an international design competition that recognizes and supports the next generation of design engineers. As the Philippines National Winner, BiDaKidney advances to the international stage of this yearโ€™s competition.

OrthoFlex is a motor-driven elbow exoskeleton that delivers precise and repetitive flexion-extension therapy, designed to help stroke patients access consistent rehabilitation even outside hospital settings.

The ๐‰๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ฌ ๐ƒ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง ๐€๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐ is an international design competition that celebrates, encourages, and inspires the next generation of design engineers. The competition is open to current and recent design engineering students.

The UP Diliman Department of Mechanical Engineering congratulates Jabez and Ada on this achievement and their work toward developing engineering solutions that address real-world healthcare needs.
