SIGMAN SCHOLARS 2026

The UP Pi Sigma Fraternity proudly recognizes five brothers who have reached a significant milestone in their academic journeys. This year's Sigman Scholars comprise three graduates who have completed their undergraduate degrees and two who have successfully earned their master's degrees.

Among these graduates are two who have been awarded special academic distinctions—magna cm laude and the Artur Woll Prize. Their achievements stand as a testament to the enduring pursuit of excellence and lifelong learning, upholding the values that the Fraternity has always sought to cultivate among its brothers.

The UP Pi Sigma Fraternity proudly congratulates Brod Carl Owen Andal ’16 for being inducted as the new director of the Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. for the Batangas chapter.

The Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. is the only professional organization of registered geodetic engineers in the country, dedicated to advancing geodesy and geospatial sciences.

Brod Owen completed his undergraduate studies in UP Diliman, under the Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering program. He holds a long list of student leadership positions, previously serving as a councilor for the UP Diliman University Student Council in 2019, an officer in the Fraternity’s Executive Council as Bursar, and as vice chairperson for membership in UP Batangan.

This achievement reflects the Fraternity’s enduring commitment to leadership, excellence, and service beyond the University. The UP Pi Sigma Fraternity proudly congratulates Brod Patrick Kyle Adeva ’22 for passing the Law Aptitude Exam and interview, formalizing his admission into the University of the Philippines College of Law.

The UP College of Law is the premier law school in the country and has long been recognized for producing generations of lawyers and scholars who have made significant contributions to the legal profession.

Brod Kyle is a graduating student from the National College of Public Administration in UP Diliman, under the Bachelor of Public Administration program. He also served three consecutive terms in the Fraternity’s Executive Council as Bursar, Scribe, and Chronicler.

The UP Pi Sigma Fraternity congratulates LE BP Atty. Jess Christian Ramirez ’11 for being inducted into the International Honor Society of Social Sciences Pi Gamma Mu. He is elected to the Philippine Alpha chapter at the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Pi Gamma Mu is the oldest and preeminent interdisciplinary social science honor society, founded in 1924 at the United States to nurture scholarship, leadership, and service. Currently, there are around 150 active chapters in the United States and overseas.

At present, LE BP Atty. Jess is a multi-disciplinary practitioner lawyer pursuing a postgraduate degree in Diploma in Industrial Relations leading to Master of Industrial Relations from the School of Labor and Industrial Relations in UP Diliman. He previously served in the college’s student council as the chairperson and representative to the University Student Council.

He was also the Lord Excelsius of the Fraternity from 2017 to 2019, and is the current Brod President of the Sigman High Council.

Continue to uphold the Fraternity’s values as you demonstrate excellence in your career, and know that the Fraternity is proud of you.

ARAW NG MANGGAGAWA

The UP Pi Sigma Fraternity stands with all workers in their continuing struggle for just wages, secure livelihoods, and dignity in working conditions. The working masses are the ones who keep the nation running, but yet are the most burdened by exploitation policies that favor profit over people.

Amid the worsening fuel crisis in the Philippines, workers carry this burden again. Surging oil prices have driven up transportation costs and other daily expenses, while wages remain grossly insufficient to meet the needs of ordinary families. Workers, whether drivers or commuters, bear this shared systemic problem. This only sharpens the urgent need for a family living wage estimated at over P1,200 a day, yet the current rate sits only at P695.

The Fraternity echoes the calls of labor groups for substantial wage hikes, the removal of fuel taxes, and an end to all anti-worker policies. The wealth created by labor must serve the people who produce it. This Labor Day, the path forward remains the same: organize, unite, and fight.

On this Day of Valor, the UP Pi Sigma Fraternity honors the courage and sacrifice of the heroes who stood their ground in resistance. Their bravery is a testament to the enduring strength of the Filipino spirit.

As their legacy lives, let us remember that we can carry forward the same valor in the choices we make and the principles we uphold. In these challenging times, their example calls us to stand in defiance as we remain steadfast in our convictions to change an oppressive system.

AN UNFINISHED REVOLUTION

In 1986, the Filipino masses all stood united against a tyrannical regime under the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. Millions rose against his despotic rule after years of repression and plunder.

But four decades later, the same issues persist. Corruption through political dynasties and self-serving policies remains entrenched. In the end, the system that enabled abuse of power was never dismantled.

This struggle for true democracy is inseparable from the demand for national sovereignty, since political power remains tethered to foreign interests

More than remembrance, the spirit of People Power demands action. The UP Pi Sigma Fraternity stands in the broader and continuing struggle of the people to uproot a failed system

The unfinished revolution is ours to carry forward.

Ngayong anibersaryo ng EDSA People Power, kaisa ng sambayanan ang Kapatirang UP Pi Sigma sa nagpapatuloy na laban para sa tunay na pananagutan. Ang diwa ng EDSA ay hindi lamang alaala ng nakaraan kundi panawagan sa kasalukuyan laban sa patuloy na korapsyon at pang-aabuso sa kapangyarihan.

Malinaw na walang tunay na pagbabago kung hindi mapapanagot ang mga pangunahing responsable kasama ang lahat ng nakinabang sa sistemang nagpapayaman sa iilan habang pinapasan ng mamamayan ang bigat ng krisis.

Ang diwa ng People Power ay diwa ng paglaban, at nananatili itong buhay sa bawat pagtindig laban sa pang-aabuso at katiwalian.
