On 8 April 2026, the SLIS College Student Electoral Board (CSEB), through the SLIS Office of the College Secretary, released SLIS CSEB Memo 2026-001, officially opening the regular elections for the SLIS Student Council for Academic Year 2026–2027. In accordance with the 2013 Constitution of the SLIS Student Council, qualified students were invited to run for the following positions:

- Chairperson
- Vice-Chairperson
- Councillors (four posts)
- SLIS Representative to the University Student Council (USC)

The filing period for candidacy ran until 20 April 2026 for the SLIS local positions and until 22 April 2026 for the SLIS Representative to the USC position.

On 21 April 2026, the SLIS CSEB released SLIS CSEB Memo 2026-002, announcing that no candidates had filed for any of the positions of the SLIS Student Council during the 2026 Student Elections period. Also, based on various sources, no candidates had filed with the University Student Electoral Board for the position of SLIS Representative to the USC. Following this, the incumbent SLIS Student Council met with the UPSLIS administration to discuss the next course of action.

In light of this, the SLIS Student Council is now accepting applications for positions for Academic Year 2026–2027. Qualified students are invited to apply and take part in student representation and service. Interested applicants may submit their application, CV, and GSPOA through the link or QR code provided below.

Applications will be accepted until 23 May 2026, 11:59 PM.

HUSTISYA PARA KAY ALYSSA

Mariing kinukundena ng mga Iskolar ng Bayan mula sa School of Library and Information Studies ang karahasang naganap sa Barangay Salamanca, Toboso, Negros Occidental, na nagresulta sa sapilitang paglikas ng daan-daang pamilya at sa pagkasawi ng ating kapwa Iskolar na si USC EdRes Councilor Alyssa Alano.

Bilang mga mag-aaral ng larangan ng impormasyon, naninindigan kami na ang karapatan sa tama, wasto, at malayang daloy ng impormasyon ay kaakibat ng karapatang mabuhay nang may dignidad at seguridad. Ang mga ganitong insidente ng militarisasyon at panunupil ay hindi lamang paglabag sa karapatang pantao, kundi tahasang pagyurak sa katotohanan at sa boses ng mamamayan.

Kaisa kami sa panawagan ng hustisya para kay Alyssa Alano, isang lider-estudyante na ginamit ang kanyang kaalaman at kakayahan upang maunawaan at maipaglaban ang kalagayan ng mga magsasaka at batayang sektor. Ang kanyang buhay ay patunay ng makabuluhang ugnayan ng kaalaman at pagkilos, isang adhikaing pinahahalagahan din namin bilang mga iskolar ng impormasyon.

Sa harap ng tumitinding disimpormasyon, pananakot, at panunupil, lalong tumitibay ang aming paninindigan na gamitin ang aming disiplina upang itaguyod ang katotohanan, ipagtanggol ang karapatan sa impormasyon, at magsilbi sa sambayanan.

Hindi kami mananahimik sa gitna ng pang-aabuso ng militar.

Nakikiisa ang aming konseho sa buong komunidad ng UP at sa sambayanang Pilipino sa paniningil ng pananagutan at pagpapanagot sa mga berdugong militar. Ang laban para sa hustisya, katotohanan, at kalayaan ay laban din ng mga tagapag-ingat at tagapagpalaganap ng kaalaman.

Patuloy naming dadalhin ang diwa ni Alyssa sa bawat pahina, bawat tala, at bawat espasyo ng impormasyon, bilang inspirasyon upang ipaglaban ang isang lipunang makatarungan, mapayapa, at malaya.

Inaanyayahan tayo na makiisa at tumindig kasama ang malawak na hanay ng mga Iskolar ng Bayan sa gaganaping indignation rally at vigil mamayang 4:30NH, Abril 23 (Huwebes) sa AS Steps.

"In compliance with national and university energy-saving directives—specifically the President's Memorandum Circular No. 114, OVPAA-OVA Joint Memo 2026-01, and Chancellor's Memo No. ECLV-26-013—the School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) will implement a full Work-from-Home (WFH) and remote learning setup every Monday, starting April 13, 2026, until further notice."
