SLSU hosts 'BASA 2026' to Drive SUC Library Innovations and Accreditation Standards

Sogod, Southern Leyte — Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) hosted "BASA 2026: Building, Advancing, Sharing, and Amplifying Library Innovations" at its Sogod Campus. The two-day gathering brought together state university and college (SUC) presidents, chief librarians, and academic leaders to discuss modernizing library services across higher education institutions.

The event saw active participation from delegation groups across the country, including representatives from Adiong Memorial State College led by College President Dr. Sherifa Rohannie K. Adiong, Board Secretary Sherifa Ainee O. Kadil, and Chief Librarian Sittie Jalalia P. Samo. SLSU President Dr. Jude A. Duarte welcomed the attendees alongside key officials.

In her keynote message, CHED Commissioner and SLSU Board of Regents Chairperson-Designate Dr. Michelle A. Ong underscored the critical position libraries hold in academic quality assurance.

"Library is an important requirement for Accreditation and COPC, on top of the library being a main feature of every educational institution," Dr. Ong stated. "Library is an inspiration. Library is free. Library is where you can imagine. It must not be for compliance only—it should be a special place for students. Let us contextualize our library according to our taste."

The program featured key technical sessions led by SLSU administrators and experts aimed at upgrading library infrastructure and university operations as follows, to wit:

First and foremost as to the Digital Transformation, Head of Learning Commons and Library Services Geanrose L. Colonia showcased methods for Transforming Library Services through ODILO alongside utilization data and impact assessments.

Secondly, in terms of Funding & Technical Specs, Director for University Information System and Analytics Francis Rey F. Padao will deliver a session on packaging IDIG (Institutional Development and Innovation Grant) proposals, covering development, costing, and technical details.

Thirdly, regarding the Internationalization & Sustainability, Dr. Ingrid M. Uy (Director, Global Engagement and Strategic Partnerships Office) would share SLSU's best practices in internationalization, while on the other hand, Mr. Leo A. Omamalin (Director, University Planning & Development) will also present implementation models for zero-waste yield.

And fourthly, in connection with Disaster Management, Dr. Jannie Fleur V. Oraño (Director, Research, Innovation & Publication Services) would be introducing GIS innovations for disaster risk reduction.

Following the presentations, delegates will participate in a guided campus tour covering key facility hubs—including the RIES Building, GIS Tech Center, and the Information & Systems Analytics Office—along with a general view of the campus grounds. Afterwards, the delegates will also travel to Padre Burgos, where the first day would be concluded with an official Welcome Dinner.

On the second day, delegates will be engaged in an immersion program centered on the key community beneficiaries of SLSU. The field activity would also be allowed visiting educational leaders to observe firsthand how academic research, resource sharing, and extension programs actively impact local community development.

AMSC Delegates attend 3rd Regional IQA Implementation Workshop Hosted by WMSU

Zamboanga City, Philippines — Western Mindanao State University officially launched the 3rd Workshop on University’s Internal Quality Assurance Implementation in the Philippines on September 15 at the Dr. Juanito Bruno Gymnasium in Zamboanga City. Running through September 17, 2026, the three-day capacity-building initiative convened higher education leaders and quality assurance practitioners from state universities and colleges across Mindanao to strengthen institutional quality assurance systems.

The collaborative event was jointly organized by the ASEAN Quality Assurance Network, IQAdvance, the ASEAN University Network Secretariat, the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development, and the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines.

Representing Adiong Memorial State College at this landmark gathering were Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Rashida A. Abedin, Dean Sittienor C. Abubakar, Dean Bedaria I. Amerol, Information Technology Officer I Sir Junaid B. Ahmad, Supervising Administrative Officer Salma Pandapatan, Quality Assurance Officers Sir Abuat Macarampat, and Ma'am Razimah A. Abedin. Joining other academic leaders from Mindanao, the delegation actively participated in workshops designed to operationalize internal quality management mechanisms aligned with regional standards.

The program focused on utilizing the AUN-QA Internal Quality Assurance Management Toolkit Version 1.3, which is structured around the Eight Building Blocks of University Quality Management. In her welcome address, WMSU President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena emphasized that quality assurance must transcend mere compliance and accreditation by cultivating an enduring culture of continuous improvement across higher education institutions. She highlighted that while universities operate under diverse contexts and challenges, they share the unified responsibility of delivering quality education, services, and outcomes for students and communities. Supporting this perspective, AACCUP Chair and President Dr. Anthony M. Penaso characterized quality assurance as a symbol of trust between universities, students, industries, and society, encouraging delegates to build internal quality systems tailored to their distinct institutional environments.

Delivering the keynote address, Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis urged state universities and colleges to frame their ongoing development around three guiding principles: Sustain, Strengthen, and Synergize. Dr. Agrupis underscored the necessity of preserving quality gains, fortifying internal quality assurance structures, and building collective partnerships throughout the sector. AQAN President Dr. Milabel E. Ho noted that this workshop signifies the final phase of the toolkit’s Version 1.3 implementation in the Philippines, laying the groundwork for a future Version 2 aimed at being even more transformative and responsive to local academic ecosystems.

CHED RO XII and UniFAST host Regional Orientation on 2026 Revised TES and TDP Guidelines in Koronadal City

Koronadal City, South Cotabato — The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XII (CHED RO XII), in coordination with the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST), convened higher education institution (HEI) representatives across Region XII and the BARMM area (Lanao and Maguindanao) on September 10, 2026, at Cinco Niñas, Koronadal City. The day-long activity, titled "Beyond Paper: Navigating the 2026 Revised TES and TDP Guidelines and the Liquidation Management System," aimed to streamline fund administration and update institutional partners on revised student financial assistance policies.

During the event, officials introduced key revised guidelines governing the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) and Tulong Dunong Program (TDP). The session covered updated documentary requirements, processing procedures, and reporting schedules to ensure uniform implementation across participating colleges and universities. In addition, the initiative unveiled the CHED-UniFAST Liquidation Management System, a platform designed to transition fund monitoring from traditional paper tracking to a digital system. This platform aims to enhance real-time status tracking, streamline liquidation report submissions, and simplify compliance procedures.

Participating public and private HEIs designated key personnel involved in scholarship administration, fund disbursement, and financial liquidation. Representing Adiong Memorial State College (AMSC) in Lanao del Sur were Sir ITO 1 Junaid B. Ahmad and Sir Abdul Khaliq B. Ahmad, who actively participated in the technical orientation and system walkthrough. To further assist delegates, CHED and UniFAST technical staff set up dedicated receiving desks—including a BARMM document section—to accept liquidation reports, validate submissions, and address operational challenges directly with HEI focal persons.

AMSC Delegates join CHED Training on Crisis Management and Security at PUP-Manila

Manila, Philippines- Representatives from Adiong Memorial State College (AMSC), including Sir Amin Batuaan and Sir Ahdil Ali, participated in a two-day (September 11-12, 2026) national training program focused on crisis management, threat identification, and active shooting incident response. The seminar-workshop, titled "Crisis Management on Active Shooting Incidents and Basic Intelligence," was hosted by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) - Manila in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The core focus of the program was to equip higher education institutions with proactive strategies to safeguard students, faculty, and administrative staff against potential campus security threats. Throughout the training, delegates were guided on threat identification and profiling, which included analyzing risk factors, spotting early indicators of violence, and formulating threat assumptions. Participants also explored basic intelligence gathering frameworks designed to collect actionable data that can directly support administrative decision-making and policy formulation.

Additionally, the program covered Active Shooter Emergency Response and Threat Mitigation Seminar (ASERTMS) protocols, detailing civilian safety communication and onsite medical response procedures. To reinforce these concepts, the delegates engaged in practical tabletop and scenario-based exercises to test institutional readiness during active emergency situations. By participating in this workshop, the AMSC delegation aims to translate these vital security protocols into localized action plans, ensuring updated crisis response guidelines and a safer learning environment for the entire AMSC community.

AMSC joins ‘Magnificent 22’ SUCs for launch of CHED’s Elevated Conversations, signs MOU

Pampanga, Philippines — Adiong Memorial State College (AMSC) joined 21 other State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), collectively dubbed the “Magnificent 22,” in the official launch of the “Elevated Conversations” (EC) series and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) hosted by Pampanga State University (PamSU) on September 12, 2026.

Initiated under the oversight of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Michelle Aguilar-Ong, the project envisions a transformative higher education framework aligned with CHED’s ACHIEVE Agenda 2030. The initiative aims to elevate graduate-level discourse beyond basic professional compliance, directly addressing challenges such as quality control, avoiding "diploma mills," strengthening faculty expertise, and adapting to modern trends like artificial intelligence.

AMSC participated virtually in the hybrid event. The State College’s delegation included Dr. Sherifa Rohannie K. Adiong, Dean Bedaria Amerol, Dean Sittienor C. Abubakar, Sir Khalid A. Ibrahim, and Board Secretary Sherifa Ainee O. Kadil.

During the launch, participating SUC leaders committed to adopting the project within their respective institutions. Comm. Aguilar-Ong emphasized the importance of creating dedicated spaces within SUCs offering graduate programs to foster deeper critical thinking and continuous improvement in higher education.

Alongside the MOU signing, PamSU unveiled its AGORA: Elevated Conversation Lounge at its Graduate School Building. The inaugural lounge session, themed “Sustaining the Unsustainable,” featured Dr. Irineo G. Alvaro, Jr., who discussed the necessity for universities to address systemic weaknesses and adapt to the evolving impact of AI in various professions.

Through its active participation in the initiative, AMSC reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its academic programs, advancing accreditation, and securing Certificates of Program Compliance (COPC) to enhance graduate education.

Over 600 Runners join Lingkod Bayani Run 2026 in Sulu for 126th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary

Jolo, Sulu — Over 600 government employees and running enthusiasts gathered in Sulu on September 13, 2026, for the Lingkod Bayani Run 2026, held in celebration of the 126th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary.

Led by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Field Office for Sulu and Basilan, the advocacy fun run was hosted in partnership with Sulu State University (SSU), the Council of Human Resource Management Practitioners (CHRMP) Sulu, and CSC Director II Hizami C. Amerol. The initiative aimed to promote health, active living, and solidarity among public servants.

The event kicked off at 4:00 AM with assembly and a energetic Zumba workout, followed by an opening prayer and the Philippine National Anthem. Attendees listened to opening remarks from Director Hizami C. Amerol and a virtual video address from CSC Chairperson Atty. Marilyn B. Yap, DPA.

Participants competed across three distance categories: 3K, 5K, and 10K. Following the run, top finishers were recognized during the awarding ceremony, which concluded with closing remarks by CHRMP Secretary Salip Sakib A. Ali. Winsor A. Asmawil served as the Master of Ceremony.

Among the prominent participating agencies and institutions were as follows, academic institutions like Sulu State University (SSU) and Adiong Memorial State College as represented by Human Resources Management Officers Ma’am Saima U. Adiong and Ma’am Jonaimah A. Sarip; healthcare Organizations such as Sulu Sanitarium and General Hospital (led by Dr. Wadud Abubakar) and Maimbung District Hospital; and other Government Offices & LGUs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Sulu, Social Security System (SSS), PhilHealth, Department of Education (DepEd) Sulu, Hadji Butu School of Arts and Trades (HBSAT), along with various local government units and delegates from Lanao del Sur.

In the 10K Category, Dexter took first place in the male division, followed by Rolly in second and Junri in third. In the female division, Khayrunnisah secured the top spot, with Maria Ronides placing second and Reema taking third place.

For the 5K Category, Nurhasan finished first in the male division, with Lodimar taking second place and Nurasdi coming in third. In the female division, Rain Sheika earned first place, followed by Desdimona in second and Alisadra in third.
In the 3K Category, Alrashid claimed first place among the male runners, followed by Almudzri in second and Pabutawan in third. For the female division, Alnaiza secured first place, while Lerna and Parisia took second and third place, respectively.

The event forms part of the nationwide Civil Service Month activities centered around fostering employee wellness, unity, and dedicated public service across government agencies.
