Dear CHM Community,

Are you ready to expand your lexicon?

✨ LEXIQUE & LINGO
Words Beyond the Ordinary

The College of Hospitality Management is introducing something new—a weekly initiative designed to make language learning a little more intriguing, a little more sophisticated, and perhaps, a little more fun.

Welcome to LEXIQUE & LINGO—a language enrichment initiative that brings together language, culture, and professional communication.

Integrated into our classroom learning, students will explore and apply featured words through discussions, activities, and professional communication tasks. Selected content will also make its way to our social media page, extending the learning experience beyond the classroom and inviting the wider CHM community to discover, engage with, and use these words.

Because in Tourism and Hospitality, words are more than definitions. They help us welcome, connect, understand, and create meaningful experiences.

LINGO takes us beyond ordinary English vocabulary, introducing interesting, sophisticated, and lesser-known words that can enrich academic, professional, and everyday communication.

LEXIQUE takes us into the world of French words and expressions with meaningful connections to Tourism, Hospitality, Culinary Arts, Travel, and Guest Experience—discovering not only the words, but also the culture and professional contexts behind them.

Every week, we will discover:

🇬🇧 3 English Words
🇫🇷 3 French Words

Six Words. New Meanings. New Perspectives. Every Week.

🎯 Aligned with UN SDG 4: Quality Education, particularly Target 4.4, supporting the development of relevant skills for employment and professional life.

But for now…

We won’t tell you the words just yet. 👀

Six words are waiting.

Some you may have heard before.
Some may be completely new to you.
And at least one might make you stop and ask—

“What does THAT mean?”

So, sharpen your vocabulary.
Open your mind.
And get ready to discover words beyond the ordinary.

Warmest birthday greetings to our University Chancellor, Dr. Charlotte Vio Carino! 💐💐💐

Today, we celebrate a leader whose journey in our University has touched many lives. Long before becoming our Chancellor, you were our Dean—guiding the College of Hospitality Management with wisdom, purpose, and genuine care for the people entrusted to you.

Years may have passed, and your role may have grown, but the impact of your leadership remains part of our College’s story. It is especially meaningful for us to see someone who once led our College now entrusted with the greater responsibility of leading the University.

May this birthday bring you moments of gratitude for the journey, fulfillment in the work you continue to do, and many more meaningful years of service to education and our academic community.

Happy Birthday, Ma’am Charlotte! May you continue to lead with purpose, grace, and a heart for people. 💐

The Festival of Hope is here. One night, thousands of wishes. An unforgettable tradition that transforms the dark ocean into a sea of living stars.

Every lantern and wooden platform is crafted from eco-friendly materials. Out on the water, local fishermen in motorized boats watch over the perimeter, using nets and buoys to gently catch and retrieve every single lantern from the sea. This ensures that the only thing remaining of the night's magic is the lingering warmth in everyone's hearts.

📍 DAY 3 HIGHLIGHTS | CHM Manila Educational Tour 2026 ✈️🇵🇭

The third day of the College of Hospitality Management’s Manila Educational Tour 2026 provided our Level II Hospitality Management and Tourism Management students with a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of tourism, local enterprise, destination development, recreation, and urban lifestyle experiences.

The day began with a rolling tour around Tagaytay City, one of the Philippines’ premier tourism destinations, where students observed how natural attractions, strategic destination planning, and tourism infrastructure contribute to the city’s enduring appeal to both domestic and international visitors.

An ocular visit to the Tagaytay Public Market offered valuable insights into local commerce, community-based enterprises, and the role of local products in supporting tourism and regional economic development. This experience highlighted the importance of empowering local communities and preserving authentic cultural experiences within tourism destinations.

Students also visited People’s Park in the Sky, where they appreciated the significance of natural and cultural attractions in enhancing destination competitiveness while promoting environmental awareness and responsible tourism practices.

Lunch at Leslie’s Restaurant provided not only a memorable dining experience but also an opportunity to observe hospitality operations while enjoying the breathtaking panoramic view of Taal Lake and Volcano—one of the country’s most iconic natural attractions. The experience underscored the importance of integrating quality service, local cuisine, and destination assets in creating exceptional guest experiences.

The afternoon was spent at Enchanted Kingdom, where students gained exposure to theme park operations, visitor management, attraction design, safety protocols, and experiential tourism. As one of the country’s leading leisure destinations, the visit demonstrated how entertainment and recreation contribute to tourism growth and customer satisfaction.

The day concluded with a leisurely stroll through Bonifacio Global City (BGC), allowing students to observe a modern urban environment that exemplifies contemporary city planning, mixed-use development, lifestyle tourism, and sustainable urban growth.

While Day 3 offered a more recreational dimension to the educational tour, it remained a valuable learning experience that enabled students to analyze tourism products, visitor experiences, destination management practices, and the economic contributions of tourism and hospitality enterprises.

Aligned with Foundation University’s commitment to transformative education, the day’s activities supported the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:

📚 SDG 4 – Quality Education through experiential and contextual learning;
💼 SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth by exposing students to tourism-driven businesses and local enterprises;

🌱 SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production through awareness of local products and sustainable tourism practices; and
🤝 SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals through the continued collaboration between academia, tourism stakeholders, and industry partners.

Day 3 reminded us that learning can be found in every destination—from local markets and scenic landscapes to theme parks and modern cities. Through observation, reflection, and experience, our students continue to build the knowledge, skills, and perspectives needed to become future leaders in the tourism and hospitality industry.
