Fifty-four years. Never again. Never forget.

Today, we remember the declaration of Martial Law under Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and the lives and stories shaped by the years that followed. We remember not only to look back, but to understand, to question, and to keep the truth from being forgotten.

History lives on through those who choose to remember, speak, and stand for what is right.

🏆 SUDS at Lantugi Novice Cup 2026!

Held on September 12–13 via Discord, the Silliman University Debate Society competed in the Lantugi Novice Cup 2026.

Congratulations to Nizza Noreen A. Lumaya and Mary Anne C. Lechido for their outstanding performance throughout multiple debate rounds, breaking as the 9th Open Team and advancing to the grand finals!

Nizza also received the 9th Best High School Speaker and 8th Best Open Speaker awards.

Meanwhile, Alexandria Jordan served as the High School Semifinals Chair and a High School Finals Judge, and earned the 5th Best Judge award.

🏆 SUDS at the Philippine Intercollegiate Debating Championship 2026!

Last June 11-14, 2026, the Silliman University Debate Society proudly competed at the Philippine Intercollegiate Debating Championship 2026, the Philippines' premier Asian Parliamentary debate nationals, hosted by the UP Debate Society, online via Zoom and Discord. Out of 78 teams, SUDS made a splash, bagging 2nd Sinag Cup Reserved Breaking Team. The competing contingent is composed of:

🏖 Denver Jimenez (BS Medical Technology, Year II)
🐬 Alexandria Joy Jordan (BS Foreign Affairs, Year III)

The Silliman University Debate Society proudly competed at the Philippine Schools Debating Championship 2026, the premier national high school debate tournament, held December 4–7, 2025, at Ateneo de Manila University.

Congratulations to Raymond Lecraw and Lourd Anque of the Senior High School Department for becoming Grandfinalists and the 4th Ana Alano Breaking Team of the tournament!

Mary Anne Lechido and Nizza Noreen Lumaya, also from the Senior High School Department, represented SUDS as a Competing Team in the tournament.

From July 11–12, 2026, Denver Jimenez from the Medical Technology department represented Silliman University Debate Society as a judge. He was a breaking adjudicator and served as a High School Semifinals Panelist in Bicol Intervarsity 2026, held online via Discord.

🏆 SUDS at Visayas Intervarsity 2026!

Last March 13–15, 2026, the Silliman University Debate Society proudly competed at Visayas Intervarsity 2026, held at Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu.

All three SUDS debate team contingents successfully broke in the tournament, with two teams advancing to the Grand Finals and all competing debaters earning individual speaker awards.

Raymond Lecraw and Chas Gacasan emerged as the 1st High School Breaking Team and Grandfinalists of the tournament.

Mary Anne Lechido and Nizza Noreen Lumaya followed as the 4th High School Breaking Team, likewise advancing to the Grand Finals.

Lourd Christopher Anque and Julia Sarenas secured the 1st High School Reserve Breaking Team spot.

Jasper Bryle Bayking represented SUDS as a Competing Adjudicator throughout the tournament.

🏆 SUDS at the Visayas Pro-Am 2026

Last March 7–8, 2026, the Silliman University Debate Society proudly competed in the Visayas Pro-Am 2026, hosted online by Cebu Speech and Debating.

Representing SUDS, SU A, composed of Raymond Lecraw and Nizza Noreen Lumaya, advanced as the 4th Am-Am Breaking Team and finished as Grand Finalists of the tournament.

Also representing the Society was Abigail Dereus, who competed as an adjudicator.

The Silliman University Debate Society commends our debaters and adjudicator for their remarkable performance, demonstrating the dedication, resilience, and excellence that continue to define SUDS in the debating circuit.

After a rigorous three-phase recruitment process, the Silliman University Debate Society is proud to welcome its newest firekeepers. Out of 48 applicants, 30 aspiring Firekeepers have successfully completed the recruitment process and are now officially part of the Society.
