National Heroes Day is an opportunity to commemorate the men and women who fought for the liberty and soul of our nation. True respect goes beyond retelling their sacrificesโ€”it means celebrating and carrying forward the values they embodied.

Heroes today may not sacrifice their lives, fight in wars, or receive public recognition. Yet, the spirit of heroism lives on in the small choices we make: choosing what is right when we have the freedom to do otherwise, being a source of peace and comfort to those in need of a kind word or deed, and serving our community and its stakeholders for the common good. These quiet sacrifices strengthen our communities and inspire others to do the same.

As Sillimanians, we promise to uphold these values in our daily livesโ€”to remain committed to social service and to live out the values of our community. We honor the achievements and sacrifices of our heroes, while looking toward the future by becoming true partners in creating a legacy worthy of our history.
