The 𝟲𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽's SUNWW 2026 Presentations invites the public to the special 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 of 𝘈 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘗𝘪𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘴, by filmmaker and SUNWW 2000 fellow Jean Claire Dy.

Set against the aftermath of the Marawi siege, 𝘈 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘗𝘪𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘴 follows the lives of displaced residents struggling to rebuild amid loss, uncertainty, and hope. The film chronicles the journeys of Yusop and Farhanna, a displaced couple seeking stability for their family after returning home; Nancy, a once-wealthy woman adjusting to life in an evacuation shelter after losing everything; and an anonymous driver navigating the city’s fractured realities.

Spanning two years, the documentary offers an intimate portrait of strength as Marawi residents confront the difficult path toward healing and rebuilding.

The English and Literature Department joins the celebration of the 6th National Higher Education Day and 32nd Founding Anniversary of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) with the theme “ACHIEVE-ing Knowledge Economy Together for a Future-Ready Bagong Pilipinas.”

The Department continues to uphold its mission in providing quality tertiary education in the field of language learning, intercultural communication, literary and cultural studies, and creative writing.

✨𝔐𝔢𝔢𝔱 𝔒𝔲𝔯 𝔄𝔩𝔲𝔪𝔫𝔲𝔰!✨

F. Jordan Carnice was born and raised in Tagbilaran, City, Bohol, and graduated with a degree in Creative Writing at Silliman University in 2009. He has been a writing fellow at national writers workshops in Silliman, Iligan, and Bacolod, and is a two-time Poet of the Year at the Nick Joaquin Literary Awards (2023 and 2024). In 2025, he received the President Carlos P. Garcia Award for Excellence in Literary Arts. He works as a researcher at the National Museum of the Philippines in Dumaguete.

"In my junior and senior years, I became the sole creative writing student under the SU English and Literature Department. The easy response would have been to shrink from it, but it only pushed me to try harder because, suddenly, it felt like all eyes were on me. It helped to have teachers like César Ruiz Aquino and Myrna Peña-Reyes, who not only taught the craft but demanded the rigor of it - how to wield words that speak to both intellect and emotion, how to see through them a world that could be better. That discipline followed me into every field I've worked in since, museum research included, and instilled a determined mindset that I don't think would have taken root otherwise. Writing demands a great deal. It is a perpetual practice of trying to understand what makes us human. I believe that course prepared me for the reality I'm living in right now."

Adam Lawrence Tolentino is now pursuing a master's degree in English Language Studies.

"My undergraduate journey in the English Language Studies program at Silliman University helped me see language beyond just grammar and vocabulary. What started as a goal to improve my English grew into a deeper appreciation and understanding of its nuances through courses like semantics and discourse analysis. Along the way, I became more critical, reflective, and confident in expressing my ideas, especially through research and academic writing. More than anything, ELS changed how I think and communicate, and it continues to influence how I see the world today."
