International Conference in Mathematics, Statistics, and Mathematics Education (ICMSME 2026) together with the Joint Annual Convention of Mathematical Society of the Philippines-Regions 10, 12, & BARMM, and Negros Island Region that also features the National Research Council of the Philippines (Division II) Research Capability Building Workshop on Research Proposal Writing and Target Publication
happened last September 29 - Oct 1, 2026 at The Barn, Mango Ranch, Valencia, Negros Oriental.

Having Silliman University thru its Math Department as co-host and SUMMA as part of the working committees for the ICMSME 2026 and NRCP Division II Workshop made these three fruitful days a memorable one for us!

Andren Marie B. Eligan, a BS Biology I, secured 2nd Place in the Philippine Statistics Quiz - Provincial Elimination held last September 30, 2026 at Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Dumaguete City.

She will advance to the Regional Level, representing Silliman University along with her co-representative.

The FIRST-EVER BS Math SUMMA CUM LAUDE ✅
The ONLY SUMMA CUM LAUDE of SU Batch 2025 ✅
5th Placer of LET 2026 (for Secondary Education major in Mathematics) ✅

: Silliman University (SU) alumna Dyann A. Tubio, who placed fifth in the secondary level of the March 2026 Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET), received an incentive from the University in recognition of her achievement.

Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research Dr. Lily Ann D. Bautista presented the incentive to Tubio at her office on August 20, 2026, with Dr. Rhea Rheem Muarip-Bolodo, chairperson of the Mathematics Department, in attendance.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Tubio had always been drawn to numbers, but teaching was not originally part of the equation. That changed as she discovered the fulfillment of helping other students understand mathematics, a path that eventually led her to take the LET and rank among the country’s top examinees.

Tubio graduated summa cm laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree from SU in 2025, becoming the first graduate of the Mathematics Department to receive the University’s highest academic distinction.

A Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) undergraduate scholar from 2021 to 2025, Tubio also received Silliman University’s Academic Honor Scholarship from 2022 to 2025. Her other academic distinctions included University Honors in 2025, College Honors in 2023 and 2024, and Class Honors in 2022.

She was among the 14 new licensed professional teachers produced by SU in the March LET. The University posted an 83.33 percent passing rate in the elementary level and a 100 percent passing rate in the secondary level, both above the corresponding national passing rates reported by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

August 27, 2026 | Hibalag Season

The Mathematics Department proudly took part in this years Parada Sillimaniana, joining the various colleges and departments of Silliman University with our respectable faculty, staff and students in celebration of Hibalag 2026.

We brought with us symbols of our discipline, a calculator, dice, bubbles, and placards while wearing our MATH (tapok)² shirts, baggy pants, and white shoes.

Among the highlights was taking a photo beside the Silliman Portal as the band played and then cheering as we were presented at the Cimafranca Ballfield as a part of the College of Arts and Sciences contingent.

We didn't just march. We calculated the vibes. The answer? MATHsaya! ❤️🤍

The Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) is a prestigious annual nationwide competition aimed at evaluating the statistical knowledge of freshman college and university students across all 18 regions of the country. This year, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the central government authority for primary data collection, and the Philippine Statistical Association, Incorporated (PSAI), a non-stock, non-profit organization of professional statisticians from various sectors, are jointly organizing the event.

Details of the Qualifying Exam:
🗓️ August 24-26, 2026
🕰️ 1:00-4:00 PM | SC 335

Interested applicants may take the exam anytime within the given date and time. Bring a pen and SciCal.

The qualifying exam is open to all enrolled regular freshmen. The Top 3 qualifiers will represent Silliman University in PSQ 2026 - Provincial Level.
