In the early 1900s, Filipino pharmacist Manuel A. Zamora developed Tiki-Tiki, a rice-bran preparation rich in thiamine (Vitamin B1), which helps prevent thiamine deficiency and beriberi.

It was later distributed as a health preparation, particularly for infants, when beriberi was a significant health concern in the Philippines.

In 1949, Filipino physician ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐€๐›๐ž๐ฅ๐š๐ซ๐๐จ ๐. ๐€๐ ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐š๐ซ collected soil samples in Iloilo, where researchers later isolated the bacterium that produces erythromycin. The antibiotic was commercially introduced in 1952 as ๐ˆ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง๐ž, named after its Philippine origin. ๐Ÿ’Š

Fun Fact: Erythromycin became an important alternative antibiotic for patients who could not take penicillin.
