The fraternal contract should not be signed in blood, celebrated with pain, marred by injuries, perpetrated through suffering and ended with death.
Alpha Phi Omega, Beta Sigma Phi, Sigma Phi Zeta, Tau Gamma Phi, The Pan Hellenic Society, and the Silliman University Student Organizations and Activity Division strongly condemns any form of fraternal violence and cruelty, especially in the conduct of initiation rites. It cannot be denied that
hazing has been a phenomenon that has beleaguered the country’s educational institutions and communities. Moreover, an initiation rite, being one of the requisites for the admission to the membership in an organization must be done in a responsible manner. It must not be forgotten that brotherhood is not shown by blood but by service and camaraderie. Alpha Phi Omega, Beta Sigma Phi, Sigma Phi Zeta, Tau Gamma Phi, The Pan Hellenic Society, and the Silliman University Student Organizations and Activity Division strongly believes that the true spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood should not be evidenced by blood and tears but by service to the school, to the community, to the organization itself and to the Nation as a fully participating citizen. We further believe that fraternity and sorority should be at all times firm to its well-founded objectives: to foster peace, love and unity, to empower personal growth and development, to contribute for the common good, to make a n actual difference regardless of diversity, to protect and preserve the rights of others and to make a change despite the stigma that the society has upon us.
Fraternities and sororities played a vital role in nation -building through community service, among others. It is there to mold young men and women to be a better member of the society. However, admission to the organization must be in a way of fostering brotherhood other than the culture of violence and suffering.
Responsible conduct of initiation rites must be observed at all times. Thus, as an official declaration, Alpha Phi Omega, Beta Sigma Phi, Sigma Phi Zeta, Tau Gamma Phi, The Pan Hellenic Society, and the Silliman University Student Organizations and Activity Division faithfully adheres to t he existing laws and regulations in the conduct of initiation rites as part of the admission to the fraternity and sorority.
