Institute of Fisheries and Freshwater Fisheries Center Establish Another Community Enterprise Through Smoked Tilapia Production Training
The Institute of Fisheries (IOF) and Freshwater Fisheries Center (FFC) successfully conducted an extension activity on smoked tilapia production in Barangay Pangal Norte, Echague, Isabela, in partnership with the Mengal Women Organization led by its President, Ms. Febe Lansangan, and the support of Barangay Captain Hon. Leonilo C. Rivera Jr.
The activity aimed to empower women and community members through capability training focused on smoked tilapia production as a sustainable livelihood opportunity. The initiative also emphasized the importance of food security, community resiliency, and the establishment of community-based enterprises among BIDANI communities.
The extension activity was spearheaded by Dr. Isagani P. Angeles Jr., Project Leader, together with Dr. Mary Joy L. Asprec, Dean of the IOF, and Dr. Laila G. Castro, IOF Extension Coordinator. Their leadership and continued commitment strengthened the universityโs mission of delivering relevant extension services and sustainable livelihood programs to partner communities.
Participants from various barangays in Echague actively joined the training, including beneficiaries from:

The participants enthusiastically engaged in the hands-on demonstration and practical activities. They expressed appreciation for the knowledge and skills gained during the training and shared their optimism in pursuing smoked tilapia production as a future community enterprise and additional source of income.
Through this initiative, the IOF and FFC continues to uphold its commitment to empowering communities through fisheries-based livelihood programs, skills enhancement, and sustainable development initiatives geared toward inclusive rural development.
