Taking graduate-level expertise out of the classroom and into the community, the Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) - Home Technology class of Isabela State University held its Academic Class Culmination in Community Nutrition through a Public-Rural Education drive for mothers and children at Barangay Dalakip, December 13, 2025.
The outreach program served as the final requirement for the graduate students, designed to translate advanced concepts of nutrition and dietetics into practical, actionable knowledge for rural households under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Hazel Beth M. Bautista.
Targeting the most vulnerable sectors of the community, the event focused on public-rural education, a strategy aimed at empowering local mothers with the skills to prepare affordable, nutrient-dense meals using locally available resources.
The day-long activity featured interactive lectures and demonstrations tailored for the mothers of Barangay Dalakip. Key topics included proper meal planning, addressing malnutrition in toddlers, and sustainable food preparation techniques.
Simultaneously, the graduate students conducted a supplemental feeding program and health assessment for the children of the barangay, ensuring an immediate positive impact alongside the long-term educational goals.
Barangay officials of Dalakip expressed their gratitude for the initiative, noting the importance of such interventions in improving the health status of their constituents.
The successful conduct of the event marks another milestone for the ISU graduate school program, reinforcing its role in community development and extension services in the province of Isabela.
