Tomorrow is the day! Before we commence "EnerGeo: Powering the Future Rooted in Earth”, let us have some energizing news update from the PhilEnergy Expo 2025.

Last March 19 to March 21 in the PhilEnergy Expo 2025, the Department of Energy announced that the Philippine Energy Plan (PEP) does not need annual revisions this year. Michael Sinocruz, director of the DOE’s energy policy planning bureau, mentioned that the current energy targets will remain.

According to the DOE, the PEP 2023-2040 serves as an all-encompassing energy framework that incorporates renewable energy initiatives and energy efficiency and conservation strategies. The PEP aims to achieve key goals such as boosting the renewable energy share in the power generation mix to 30% by 2030 and 50% by 2040, adopting LNG imports, enhancing biofuel blends like biodiesel and bioethanol, and incorporating electric vehicles into the transportation sector.

Such news is relevant to what the organizer of the PhilEnergy Expo 2025, Rungphech Rose Chitanuwat, has also said in the convention that noteworthy, significant growth and development is being observed in related energy sectors. He also said that we are aiming that clean energy would account for 35% of the country's energy generation mix by 2030, and for more than 50% by 2040.

Our country's efforts and aims for a more sustainable future truly inspires all of us to participate and contribute more to our further development in the energy sector.

ENERGIZE for "EnerGeo: Powering the Future Rooted in Earth”!!!

The Department of Energy developed the Philippine Energy Plan (PEP) as a guiding framework for the energy transformation over the next decades. The department aims to focus in increasing the share of renewable energy in the power generation mix, developing alternative fuels and emerging energy applications, adopting advanced smart grid technologies, and establishing “a resilient, green, and climate-proof energy infrastructure.”

𝟰 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗚𝗲𝗼! 🌍⚡

As of 2023, the Philippines' energy production is predominantly reliant on coal, natural gas, and geothermal energy, with coal accounting for 63% of the country’s total electricity generation. Natural gas accounts for 14% and Geothermal for 9% only for the whole country’s energy production. However, the nation faces a growing energy crisis, as the Malampaya natural gas fields—currently supplying 30% of Luzon’s energy—are expected to be depleted by 2024-2025.

While the Philippines has expressed interest in clean energy development, economic growth remains a priority, and there are currently no penalties or disincentives for utilizing conventional energy sources. Recognizing the need for diversification, the Department of Energy (DOE) has taken steps to modernize the sector. On April 15, 2022, the DOE released the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI), outlining policies for: Unbundling of electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS), Accreditation and standardization of EVCS, and Integration of EV technologies into the transportation sector

In response to global energy trends, the Philippines is also exploring nuclear energy, small modular reactors (SMRs), and advanced energy storage solutions to enhance long-term energy security and sustainability.
