Braving the intense summer heat, aspiring students flocked to Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) Main Campus to take the NISU College Admission Test (NCAT) 2026 on April 25, marking the first day of the universityโs admission screening for the upcoming academic year.
The examination was administered in four batches scheduled at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., across designated classrooms in the College of Education and College of Arts and Sciences buildings.
This yearโs NCAT was spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, headed by Dr. Gilda E. Deguma, in coordination with the University Registrar and Guidance Counselorโs Office.
According to Dr. Edna T. Suganob, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and co-chair of the NCAT 2026, the administration of the examination was systematically organized to manage the volume of applicants.
She further explained that the examination utilized 14 classrooms with approximately 40 examinees per room across four batches for two days, April 25 and 26.
โWith the 14 classrooms being used, 40 examinees each, and four batches for two days, we have a large number of examinees expected,โ she stated.
Moreover, Dr. Suganob estimated that around 1,500 applicants are expected to be accommodated in the Main Campus alone, following the universityโs target per academic program.
Despite minor challenges encountered during the initial batch, the overall administration of the examination remained organized and efficient.
In terms of verification, some examinees were unable to present valid identification cards, prompting necessary adjustments in their schedules.
โThere were those who did not have IDs for verification, so I scheduled them to return once they could present one and be accommodated in later batches,โ she said.
Moreover, Dr. Suganob highlighted that this yearโs NCAT implementation was more systematic due to strengthened coordination and the involvement of student leaders.
โAs to the approach, I think this is more systematic this year because we have better control, with the Supreme Student Council, student leaders from the College of Arts and Sciences, and The Astrals helping in facilitating the exam,โ she emphasized.
Additionally, she pointed out the need for improvements in addressing the extreme heat experienced by both NCAT takers and proctors during the examination.
The NCAT serves as the initial screening process for aspiring NISUnians, determining their eligibility to proceed to program-specific examinations and interviews aligned with their chosen degree programs.
