The College of Fisheries and Allied Sciences (CFAS) proudly announces that our entry, CRABFortune (KASAGana), has been awarded a 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 by the Tokyo Global Innovation Challenge (TGIC) — an international competition supported by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Japan Finance Corporation, Deloitte Tohmatsu and a consortium of universities across Japan. This year’s edition has been extremely competitive with 200 participating teams from 40 countries.
The CRABFortune (KASAGana) team is composed of: Regie Pancho (Bachelor of Science in Fisheries), Cobbie Tangente (BSIT – Drafting Technology), and Pamela Burias (Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management ). The team was guided by their dedicated mentors, Mr. Ryan B. Catulin (CFAS Alumni Batch 2025) and Mr. Marco Mahilum (CFAS Alumni Batch 2025). Dr. Cheryl B. Jela, Chairperson and Dr. Leovigildo Rey S. Alaban, Dean also guided the team.
Fresh from winning Grand Winner of the AVAMOS Blue Nation Innovation Challenge – Storytelling, our team pushed forward and submitted an online pitch video to the Tokyo Global Innovation Challenge on November 15, 2025, at the Tokyo Innovation Base (TiB), Japan. Although the team did not advance to the final round, TGIC commended CRABFortune for its excellent structure, high-quality presentation, creativity, and passion—qualities that made the project stand out among global entries. TGIC also expressed their intention to feature our team’s work on the official TGIC website.
This recognition marks a remarkable milestone for CFAS and the University as we actively pursue our vision of internationalization and elevate the culture of research, innovation, and global competitiveness among Fisheries Students.
The team would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the key officials of the Northern Iloilo State University for continuously supporting the college’s mission and vision, as well as continuing to champion the Bachelor of Science in Fisheries program.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to TGIC for this honor, and to our dedicated advisers for their unwavering guidance and support.
With pride and gratitude, CFAS celebrates this achievement.
