CLSU Karatekas deliver 13-medal haul,
take 2nd overall in SUC III Games
The Karatedo Team of Central Luzon State University (CLSU) Green Cobras took the second overall spot of the sport with a campaign run of three gold, two silver, and eight bronze medals across the Kata and Kumite events of the State Universities and Colleges (SUC) III Olympics, Feb. 23-24.
Of the three gold medals, two came from the individual events through Jhan Paul Disu in the menโs kumite under 67kg and Aprilyn Mateo in the womenโs kumite under 68kg.
Meanwhile, the remaining gold medal came from the womenโs Team Kumite composed of Beatriz Lian Soriano, Jerahmeel Trases, Blessie Fernandez, and Mateo.
Two silver in Kata events were also won by the karatekas in courtesy of Nheil Angelo Albano in the menโs individual, and the trio of Darylne Mae Macadildig, Mateo, and Geraldine Quesada in the womenโs team event.
The remaining bronze are as follow: Trases in womenโs individual Kata under 50kg, Albano in menโs kumite under 55kg, Khalil Errol Sano in menโs kumite under 84kg, Fernandez in womenโs kumite under 55kg, and Crixia Mae Gumayagay in the womenโs kumite under 61kg.
CLSU also took bronze in the men's Team Kumite event, with the squad composed of Dane Darryl Clor, Disu, Ramos, Albano, Marc Andrei Angadol, Rasdy Rabo Jr., and Sano; while the trio of Albano, Ramos, and Disu also sealed the men's Team Kata bronze.
The Green Cobras were coached and trained by coaches Benjamin Sotto and Shihan Gregorio Lacorte, to clinch the second overall in womenโs and third overall in menโs events. | via KARL ROY TORALBA, CLSU Collegian
