SITGOA, DNA-PH Empower Siargao Youth Through 3-Day Poster-Making Workshop, Culminating in Art Exhibit

April 29, 2026 — Angelica’s Hostel-Nomad Cafe & Workspace

The Siargao Tour Guides and Organizers Association (SITGOA), in partnership with Digital Nomad Association Philippines (DNA-PH), successfully launched a three-day Poster-Making Training Workshop for young Siargaonon artists on April 29, 2026, at Angelica’s Hostel.

The workshop brought together participants aged 11 to 16 years old, composed of students from General Luna and nearby communities in Siargao. The initiative aims to enhance their creative and artistic abilities, while fostering self-expression and community awareness through visual storytelling.

The training was facilitated by Daniel Adrian Camingue and also served as the resource speaker, who guided participants through key concepts such as design principles, color theory, symbolism, and effective messaging. Throughout the three days, students engaged in hands-on activities, progressively developing their own poster artworks that reflect personal insights and community themes.

Organizers emphasized that the workshop is part of a broader effort to cultivate a vibrant creative space in Siargao, where young individuals are encouraged to explore art as a means of communication and social impact.

“The goal is to empower the youth not only with technical skills, but with the confidence to express their ideas and contribute meaningfully to their communities,” Camingue shared.

The program will culminate in a public exhibit on the fourth day, where participants will showcase their completed artworks. The exhibit aims to celebrate the students’ creativity and highlight the emerging talents of Siargao’s youth, offering the community a glimpse into their perspectives and artistic potential.

General Luna, Siargao — April 22, 2026

The Siargao Tour Guides and Organizers Association (SITGOA), in partnership with Digital Nomad Association Philippines (DNA-PH), successfully hosted a Networking Dinner that gathered small businesses, innovators, and community leaders in a shared mission to advance sustainability and collaboration on the island.

Held at Angelica’s Hostel – Nomad Workspace in Barangay Poblacion, the event was supported by Upgrade Innolab, alongside development partners Expertise France Groupe AFD and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). Anchored on the theme “Small Businesses, Big Impact,” the gathering emphasized the role of local enterprises in building a resilient and sustainable economy in Siargao.

A significant highlight of the evening was the participation of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – Caraga Region, led by Regional Director Noel Ajoc. The agency presented its range of startup support programs, reaffirming its commitment to empowering local entrepreneurs and fostering innovation within the community.

During the session, DOST emphasized its readiness to assist small businesses and emerging startups in adopting circular economy practices, offering technical support, capacity-building initiatives, and potential funding pathways. Their presence underscored the importance of science, technology, and innovation in addressing environmental challenges while driving inclusive economic growth.

The event also served as a platform for participants to connect, collaborate, and develop project proposals centered on circular economy solutions—particularly in areas such as waste management, sustainable tourism, and resource efficiency.

Adding to the momentum, attendees were given the opportunity to pitch innovative ideas, with grant funding of up to Php 1.3 million available to support impactful and scalable projects. Organizers highlighted the importance of building partnerships across sectors to turn ideas into actionable solutions for the island.

“Sustainability is a shared responsibility. Through collaboration, innovation, and strong institutional support, we can ensure that Siargao’s development benefits both people and the environment,” organizers shared.

With strong participation from stakeholders, including SITGOA, DNA-PH, and DOST Caraga, the Networking Dinner marked a meaningful step toward embedding circular economy principles into Siargao’s local industries—demonstrating how collaboration can drive long-term sustainability and community growth.

DNA PH, SITGOA Push Digital Transformation with AI-Focused Virtual Assistant Training Orientation

April 10, 2026 | Siargao Island, Philippines

A forward-thinking initiative to future-proof local livelihoods took place today at Angelica’s Hostel, as DNA PH, SITGOA, and Siargao Nomad Workspace hosted a Virtual Assistant Training Orientation centered on the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in remote work.

The event gathered an energetic mix of tour guides, freelancers, hostel owners, and event organizers—sectors traditionally rooted in tourism but now increasingly exploring digital opportunities. The orientation placed strong emphasis on upgrading skills through AI tools, positioning participants to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving global job market.

Resource speaker Jim Malinao led the discussion with his talk, “Virtual Assistants in 2026 and Beyond.” He highlighted how AI is no longer optional but essential for virtual assistants aiming to deliver faster, smarter, and more scalable services.

“AI tools are not here to replace you—they are here to upgrade you,” Malinao emphasized. “Those who learn how to use AI effectively will dominate the next wave of remote work.”

The session introduced participants to practical applications of AI, including:
• Content creation and copywriting using AI assistants
• Automated customer service and chatbot management
• Data organization and smart scheduling
• Graphic design and video editing with AI-powered platforms
• Workflow automation to increase productivity and efficiency

Attendees were encouraged to integrate these tools into their existing work—whether managing bookings, handling client communications, or promoting tourism services online. For many, the training opened doors to transforming traditional roles into digitally enhanced professions.

The collaboration between DNA PH, SITGOA, and Siargao Nomad Workspace reflects a shared vision of building a digitally skilled, AI-enabled community. By equipping locals with cutting-edge tools, the initiative aims to create sustainable income streams beyond seasonal tourism.

Participants responded with enthusiasm, recognizing that mastering AI tools can significantly boost their earning potential and global reach. “This is a game-changer for us,” one attendee shared. “We can now compete internationally without leaving the island.”

As Siargao continues to evolve into a hub for both tourism and remote work, events like this signal a powerful shift—where technology, creativity, and local talent intersect. With AI at the center of this transformation, the island is not just keeping up with the future—it’s actively shaping it.

From Guides to Nomads: SITGOA ADVOCATES TECH-TOURISM

SITGOA will be launching the E-Guide Program to its members advocating TECH-TOURISM on the island on September 16, 2025.

BACKGROUND:

Tour guides are essential cultural ambassadors of Siargao, sustaining the local economy through tourism. Yet, their livelihoods remain vulnerable to seasonal downturns, environmental challenges, and global crises. With the digital age reshaping tourism, guides now have the opportunity to expand beyond traditional roles by embracing technology and online platforms.

The E-GUIDE Initiative (Empowering Guides through Upgraded Innovation & Digital Engagement) responds to this need by equipping tour guides with digital skills, enabling them to remain resilient, adaptable, and future-ready professionals.

KEY GOALS:

1. Resilience in Times of Uncertainty—E-GUIDE provides tour guides with new competencies to withstand economic shocks, ensuring that their income is not solely dependent on tourist arrivals.

2. Diversification of Livelihoods—By engaging in digital work such as virtual assistance, content creation, and remote freelancing, guides can supplement their income while continuing to thrive as tourism professionals.

3. Empowerment through Technology – The program equips guides with digital literacy, online professionalism, and platform navigation skills, making them more confident in accessing the digital economy.

4. Sustainable Tourism and Community Growth—As digitally empowered individuals, guides can contribute not only to local tourism but also to the global knowledge economy, creating ripple effects for their families and communities.

In collaboration with the Digital Nomad Association Philippines, SITGOA is set to equip its members for the digital workplace, and they will be given full support for online job employment by the trainers who will be their future employers. This will mark a remarkable beginning to their new journey in digital nomadism.
