Some days, surviving the week is already an achievement. Some days, the most ordinary things take more of us than we are willing to admit. And some days, we become so occupied with keeping everything together that we forget to ask ourselves if we are still okay.

Perhaps healing does not always look like getting better. Sometimes, it is allowing ourselves to rest without feeling guilty. It is learning that we do not have to earn our right to breathe, that we can be proud of ourselves even when we have not done enough, and that being a work in progress does not make us any less worthy of love.

We often remind others to be gentle with themselves, yet struggle to offer the same gentleness to the person we meet in the mirror. Maybe today is a good place to start.

This World Mental Health Day, may we remember that we are more than our productivity, our achievements, and the expectations we carry. We are human beings, not just people trying to keep up with life.

And if all you managed to do today was get through it, I hope you know that you do not have to turn your survival into something extraordinary for it to matter.

You, too, deserve the kind of understanding you so freely give to others.

Happy World Mental Health Day. May we make a little more room for rest, for honesty, and for the parts of ourselves that are still learning how to be okay.

Working with the Sama Dilaut community in Barangay Bawing, General Santos City, the study examines how displacement, discrimination, and barriers to education, employment, and basic services sustain poverty. Its findings provide a basis for gender-responsive policies and community initiatives grounded in residentsโ€™ needs and experiences.

A proud achievement for the department and the College of Social Sciences and Humanities!
