The Institute of Islamic, Arabic, and International Studies (IIAIS) of Mindanao State University – General Santos proudly recognizes its faculty and staff who presented their research papers at the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 (𝗣𝗦𝗦) 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, held on 𝟭–𝟯 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 at Mindanao State University – General Santos.

Representing the Institute’s academic community, these researchers engaged in scholarly discussions on migration, labor mobility, reintegration, Islamic traditions, modernity, and the lived experiences of Filipino and Muslim communities. Their work reflects IIAIS’s commitment to producing research that deepens understanding of pressing social issues and contributes to meaningful academic discourse.

These research presentations underscore the importance of locally grounded scholarship in understanding the complexities of migration, culture, identity, and society. They also highlight the valuable contributions of IIAIS faculty and staff to research and knowledge production within and beyond Mindanao.

The Institute of Islamic and Arabic Studies (IIAIS), in partnership with the Muslim Students' Association (MUSA), is currently conducting the International Seminar Series titled "The Formation of Islamic Law: History, Theory, and Application".

Participants are gathered at the Library Audio-Visual Room and online via hybrid platform to engage in a meaningful exchange of knowledge, history, and perspectives.

FOSTERING STRONGER ACADEMIC AND INSTITUTIONAL TIES BETWEEN MALAYSIA AND THE PHILIPPINES

The Consulate General of Malaysia in Davao welcomed a delegation from Mindanao State University – General Santos for a visit to the Chancery Office on 08 September 2026. The delegation was warmly received by the Consul General of Malaysia, Mr. Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh.

The delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Anderson V. Villa, Chairperson of the International Relations Department and accompanied by Dr. Melvin A. Jabar, Faculty Member, International Relations Department; Mr. Jamilnur D. Sarip, Director, Halal Research and Training Center; Mr. Mohammad Borhan H. Emam, Faculty Member, Islamic Studies Department; Ms. Alexandra Eisabel C. Mituda, Staff Member, International Relations Department and together with 25 students from Mindanao State University – General Santos.

The visit provided an opportunity to further strengthen the cordial relations between the Consulate General of Malaysia in Davao and Mindanao State University – General Santos while exploring potential areas of future collaboration particularly in higher education, research, cultural exchange and international engagement.

During the visit, Mr. Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh shared insights into the practice of diplomacy and the responsibilities entrusted to diplomats in representing their respective countries abroad. Through an engaging discussion on the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the students gained a deeper understanding of the legal framework governing diplomatic missions including the privileges and obligations of diplomats, as well as the important role of diplomacy in promoting peaceful and constructive relations among nations.

The Institute of Islamic, Arabic, and International Studies (IIAIS) of Mindanao State University – General Santos proudly recognizes the participation of its Acting Dean, Dr. Abdul M. Lantong as an invited speaker at the 4th International Conference on Economic and Social Sciences (ICESS) 2026.

With the theme, “Transforming Research into Impact: Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals Through Islamic Economics and Social Sciences,” the conference brings together scholars and academic leaders from across the region and beyond to engage in meaningful conversations on research, sustainable development, Islamic scholarship, and the social sciences.

Dr. Lantong’s participation reflects MSU - General Santos' continuing engagement in international academic discourse and scholarly exchange, particularly at the intersection of Islamic studies, international affairs, governance, and the social sciences.

As the Institute continues to strengthen its academic linkages beyond Mindanao, we celebrate opportunities that carry the scholarship and perspectives of MSU-General Santos to the international academic community.
