The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM) conducted its 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 on September 16, 2026, at Venue 88, with the active participation of the College Administration and Focal Persons.

Together with the Dean, Assistant Dean and Dean’s Office staff, the activity was attended by the Department Chairpersons, Program Coordinators, and College Focal Persons for Research, Extension, Internationalization, Gender and Development, and Quality Assurance.

Building on a strong foundation of accomplishments and continuing progress, the activity provided an opportunity to reflect on achievements, assess current performance, identify opportunities for further growth, and chart strategic directions for the College’s academic, research, extension, and institutional goals.

Through meaningful collaboration, critical reflection, and purposeful planning, CNSM continues to build on its strengths, raise its standards, and reach for greater heights—advancing a culture of quality, innovation, excellence, and responsive service.

‎Ten Scopus-indexed publications placed the Mathematics Department first among academic departments, while the Department of Biological Sciences tied for third with three publications as of August 31, according to the 2026 Midyear Assessment Report by the Mindanao State University–General Santos Office of Monitoring and Evaluation.

‎Elementary Education Department and Department of Political Science followed in second place with four publications each, and Physical Education Department also tied for third with three publications.
‎
‎Both departments under the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM) marked an achievement in research, further strengthening the college’s research standing within the university.

Congratulations to the Mathematics Department and the Department of Biological Sciences for being among the Top 5 department units of MSU-GenSan with the highest number of papers published in Scopus-indexed journals from January to August 2026.

The Mathematics Department recorded 10 publications, while the Department of Biological Sciences contributed 3 publications, reflecting the College’s continuing commitment to research excellence, scholarly productivity, and global academic visibility.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | 𝐌𝐒𝐔 - 𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐀𝐍 𝐇𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐒 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐌𝐓𝐀𝐏-𝐓𝐋 𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐔𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍

Mindanao State University – General Santos proudly hosted the 2026 Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines – Tertiary Level (MTAP-TL), Inc. Annual Convention, held on July 29–31, 2026 at Venue 88 Hotel and Events Place, General Santos City.

The three-day convention brought together mathematics educators and practitioners from across the country for meaningful academic exchange and professional engagement. It featured plenary lectures, oral and poster presentations of research outputs, and discussions on emerging trends and innovations in mathematics education. Beyond the sharing of knowledge and research, the convention provided a valuable platform for mathematics educators to exchange innovative teaching practices, research insights, and future directions in mathematics education.

Adding distinction to the event, three faculty members from MSU-General Santos served as plenary speakers: Dr. Berlita Y. Disca and Dr. Jay D. Buscano of the Mathematics Department, and Dr. Ebrahim Alpe A. Simpal, professorial lecturer of the MST Program in the Graduate Program in Education. Their participation reflects the University’s continuing commitment to advancing excellence in mathematics education, research and professional development.

The Mathematics Department extends its heartfelt gratitude to our University Chancellor, Atty. Shidik T. Abantas, and the University officials for their unwavering support in making this significant academic endeavor possible.

Our BS Biology and MS Biology programs recently underwent comprehensive evaluations by the CHED Central Office – Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD) and the Technical Panel for Biology for the applications for Center of Excellence (COE) and Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC), respectively.

Congratulations to the Department of Biological Sciences on this significant milestone. We are pleased to share that, based on the evaluation findings, the MS Biology Program recorded zero non-compliance (NC) and has been recommended for the issuance of its COPC.

We are also eagerly awaiting the official results of the BS Biology Program's application for COE status, which are expected to be announced soon. We remain optimistic and hopeful for a favorable outcome.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the University Administration, led by Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. Abantas, as well as to all our faculty and staff whose hard work, teamwork and unwavering commitment made these accomplishments possible. Thank you for your dedication in preparing the required documents and ensuring our facilities were ready for the evaluation.

Together, we continue to foster academic excellence in our Biology Programs.
