The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (OVCAA), in collaboration with the Information, Communication, Technology Office (ICTO), successfully conducted the Harmonization of Course Offerings for the First Semester, AY 2026โ€“2027, and the Student Academic Information System (SAIS) Workshop on July 13, 2026, at the CSSH Mini Theater, MSUโ€“General Santos.

The activity gathered deans, department chairpersons, and academic personnel to harmonize course offerings, discuss the implementation of GEC 101, and enhance the utilization of the SAIS. The workshop underscored the University's commitment to effective academic planning, efficient course management, and the delivery of quality academic services for the upcoming semester.

Mindanao State Universityโ€“General Santos (MSUโ€“GenSan) has achieved international recognition through its inaugural participation in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026.

The University was placed within the 1001โ€“1500 band among 1,603 participating higher education institutions worldwide, highlighting its growing contribution to advancing sustainable development in higher education.

The ranking evaluates universities based on their commitment and measurable contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). MSUโ€“GenSan demonstrated notable performance across several goals, including Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8, Climate Action (SDG 13), Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).

Among its reported outcomes, the University achieved rankings within the 601โ€“800 bracket for both SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDG 13: Climate Action. Its performance in SDG 4: Quality Education placed the institution within the 801โ€“1000 bracket. The University also recorded rankings of 1001+ in SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, 801+ in SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and 1001โ€“1500 in SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, reflecting its continuing commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.

This milestone marks an important achievement for MSUโ€“GenSan and reflects the University's continuing pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, community engagement, and sustainability-driven development. This recognition strengthens its role as an institution committed to creating positive social impact and supporting global sustainability objectives.

Mindanao State Universityโ€“General Santos (MSUโ€“Gensan) upholds its commitment to sustainable development and international collaboration through participating in the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) 2026, a premier global forum that gathers higher education institutions, industry leaders, policymakers, and development advocates in support to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Representing the University at the Congress are Prof. Mishell D. Lawas, D.Eng., Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Prof. Monsour A. Pelmin, Director of the Quality Assurance Management Services Office; Prof. Christine Dawn G. Obemio, Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension, and Innovation; and Prof. Norman Ralph Isla, Ph.D., Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Services.

Their participation allowed the University to engage in meaningful discussions on sustainability, innovation, and transformative education while exploring opportunities for strategic partnerships and collaborative research initiatives with institutions from around the globe. The Congress also provided a venue for sharing best practices and learning from global experiences that can further strengthen the University's programs and community impact.

Guided by the leadership of Chancellor Atty. Shidik T. The Center for Curriculum Studies and Instructional Designing (CCSID) successfully conducted the Learning and Educational Assessment Development (LEAD) Tier 1 Workshop on June 4โ€“5, reaffirming the universityโ€™s commitment to enhancing assessment literacy and promoting excellence in teaching and learning.

On the first day of the program, held at the Regional Science Research Center (RSRC), selected faculty members from the College of Agriculture, College of Engineering, College of Natural Sciences and Humanities, and College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences actively engaged in every topic discussed by the speaker as well as and peer discussions to strengthen their understanding. Participants also gained practical insights that can be directly applied to improve teaching strategies and assessment practices in their respective colleges.

The momentum continued on the second day at the Y-building Conference Hall, where selected faculty members from the College of Education, College of Business Administration and Accountancy, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Institute of Islamic, Arabic, and International Studies participated in interactive lectures and open forum sessions. During these discussions, meaningful dialogue among participants happened as they shared classroom assessment challenges and exchanged strategies for aligning assessments with learning outcomes.

Through a series of engaging sessions, faculty participants gained valuable insights into the basic concepts and principles of assessment, the preparation of the Table of Specifications (TOS), the construction of traditional and authentic assessment tools, and rubric development. These sessions equipped them with the practical knowledge and skills necessary for designing valid, reliable, and outcomes-based assessments.

The successful conduct of the workshop and the active engagement of faculty participants were made possible through the efforts of the Campus Curriculum Committee Core Group, composed of Prof. Berlita Disca, Prof. Jessel Gay Wacan, Prof. Maria Gladys Caliza, Dr. Ian Jay Sunio, and Ms. Angelica Cabasag, under the leadership of Dr. Michael B. Cahapay, Director of the Center for Curriculum Studies and Instructional Designing (CCSID) under the Office of the Vice Chancellor.

Furthermore, the Tier 1 Workshop marks just the beginning of CCSIDโ€™s initiative to strengthen faculty assessment competencies across colleges. Building on this foundation, succeeding batches will advance to higher tiers to further ensure quality education aligned with MSU Gensanโ€™s commitment to academic excellence.

Through this initiative, CCSID further contributes to the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), by fostering responsive, transparent, and high-quality higher education practices.

The event of June 8, 2026, marked one of the most challenging chapters in the history of Mindanao State University โ€“ General Santos. The 7.8-magnitude earthquake left visible scars on our buildings and grounds, while also carrying unseen burdens in the hearts of countless MSUans. Yet amid uncertainty, fear, and loss, the spirit of service, courage, and solidarity that defines the university remained unwavering.

In the face of adversity, MSUans chose resilience over despair. Students demonstrated remarkable courage, proving that even when the ground beneath them trembled, their determination to pursue their dreams and continue learning stood firm. Faculty members remained steadfast in their commitment to guide, support, and protect learners during a time of great uncertainty. University personnel and staff worked tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring that help reached those in need and that the university remained united despite the challenges.

Every act of kindness became a beacon of hope. Every helping hand extended, every word of encouragement shared, and every effort devoted to recovery reflected the strength, compassion, and perseverance that live within the MSUan spirit.

This is more than a story of survival, it is a story of courage, unity, and perseverance. It reminds us that true strength is not measured by the absence of hardship, but by the determination to rise after every fall and move forward together despite the odds.
