Forty-three years have passed, yet the memory of Senator Benigno โNinoyโ Aquino, Jr. continues to liveโnot merely in history books, monuments, or the pages of our nationโs past, but in the hearts of Filipinos who remember the courage it took to stand for what one believed was right.
On 21 August 1983, Ninoy returned to the Philippines carrying with him the hope of a better nation. His homecoming ended in tragedy, but his death awakened something far greater: a people who began to find their voice, their courage, and their collective strength. His sacrifice became one of the sparks that helped ignite the movement for democracy and eventually led to the People Power Revolution of 1986.
Today, the Junior Information Technology Society joins to celebrate Ninoy not only as a political figure, but as a husband, a father, a Filipino, and a man who chose to return home despite the dangers that awaited him. We remember the years he endured, the convictions he held, and the love he carried for a country he believed was worth fighting for.
May his story remind us that love for the nation is not always loud. Sometimes, it is the quiet courage to remain steadfast when it is easier to surrender. Sometimes, it is choosing to return, to speak, to remember, and to hope.
Forty-three years later, we continue to remember. We continue to learn. And above all, we continue to carry the responsibility of loving the Philippinesโnot only as the country we inherited, but as the nation we must help shape for those who will come after us.
