│𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐋𝐒𝐔 𝐆𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐚 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐆𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐥

The House Bill No. 4912, a legislative measure seeking to convert the Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) Gumaca Extension into a regular campus, was approved by the House of Representatives’ Committee on Higher and Technical Education on December 9, 2025.

The bill was sponsored by Hon. Atty. Mike Tan, representative of the 4th District of Quezon Province. Once enacted into law, the measure will institutionalize SLSU-Gumaca as a full-fledged campus, thereby strengthening its mandate to deliver accessible and quality tertiary education to students in Gumaca, Quezon, and neighboring municipalities.

Under the proposed legislation, the government will allocate funds for the development, improvement, and sustainable operation of the campus. This includes provisions for infrastructure, faculty and staff recruitment, research initiatives, and student support services. The conversion is expected to enhance academic offerings, expand enrollment capacity, and promote local development through education.

The approval at the committee level marks a significant step in the legislative process. The bill will next be calendared for the succeeding stages.

SLSU administration has expressed optimism that the measure will pave the way for expanded academic programs, improved facilities, and a stronger institutional identity for SLSU-Gumaca. The initiative aligns with the broader national agenda of investing in education as a driver of inclusive growth and sustainable development.
