Through the leadership and active involvement of BulSU Hagonoy Campus, the University contributes to this important endeavor by supporting community engagement, local knowledge-gathering, and research-informed planning toward addressing pressing environmental challenges such as land subsidence, flooding, saltwater intrusion, and the need for sustainable groundwater management.

The project emphasizes a holistic and participatory approach, engaging thousands of households through digital platforms and town hall meetings to ensure that community voices, lived experiences, and local insights help shape nature-based and regenerative solutions for the basin.

As an institution committed to research, extension, innovation, and sustainability, BulSU remains steadfast in advancing partnerships that protect vulnerable communities, strengthen climate resilience, and transform environmental challenges into opportunities for inclusive and sustainable development.

The Community Mapping and Digital Platform Capacity-Building Workshop for the Preparation Study Calumpitโ€“Hagonoy Basin Project: From Sinking Land to a Productive Wetland was successfully concluded at Bulacan State University โ€“ Hagonoy Campus.

This initiative gathered more than 120 participants from the Local Government Unit of Hagonoy, including Municipal and Barangay officials, department heads, planning and environmental officers, community leaders, youth volunteers, and partner stakeholders.

The workshop served as an important step in capacitating LGU partners and community representatives with a new, technology-enabled approach to community engagement and participatory planning. Participants were trained on the use of the projectโ€™s digital engagement platform, including interactive community mapping, survey participation, and online feedback systems that will support upcoming town hall meetings and house-to-house data gathering activities across the Calumpitโ€“Hagonoy Basin.

We are honored by the active participation and support of the Municipality of Hagonoy led by Hon. Ma. Rosario Sy-Alvarado Mendoza, together with our partner barangays, local offices, and community organizations.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to our key project partners and supporting institutions โ€” Witteveen+Bos , and NEW ENVIRONMENTS โ€” for their continued collaboration and support in advancing sustainable, community-centered, and evidence-based planning initiatives for the Calumpitโ€“Hagonoy Basin.

The strong engagement shown during the workshop reflects the growing commitment of local stakeholders toward data-driven, participatory, and environmentally responsive redevelopment planning for the future of the basin communities.
Special thanks to the Bulacan State University Research Team, project facilitators, volunteers, partner agencies, and all participating LGUs whose collaboration made this undertaking possible.

A TRIBUTE TO A VISIONARY LEADER: Dr. Mariano C. De Jesus

The entire Bulacan State University (BulSU) community deeply mourns the passing of its former University President, Dr. Mariano C. De Jesus, fondly remembered by many as "Pres. Maning," who has peacefully returned to our Creator today.

A visionary leader and a dedicated public servant, Dr. De Jesus was the architect of the universityโ€™s most significant institutional transformations. His tenure was defined by a sincere commitment to elevating the standards of education in the province, laying the groundwork for the modern and competitive institution that BulSU is today.

Under the administration of University President Dr. Teody C. San Andres, the universityโ€”together with its faculty, staff, and studentsโ€”extends its heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family of Dr. De Jesus. We join them in honoring a life truly offered in the service of the youth and the nation.

Thank you for your lifelong dedication, Pres. Maning. Your legacy will forever be etched in the halls of this university and in the hearts of every BulSUan you have inspired.

Rest in eternal peace.
