Second-year students of the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) of Aklan State University (ASU)-Ibajay immersed themselves in an Educational and Learning Exposure last April 22-24, 2026 at Alta Vista Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan.

Before the tour officially began, the students first attended a pre-deployment orientation where important reminders, schedules, rules, and safety precautions were discussed by their instructors. During the orientation, the students were informed about the different hotels available for accommodation, and they were given the opportunity to choose the hotel where they wanted to stay. The instructors also explained the benefits and advantages of joining the educational tour.

On April 22, 2026, after arriving at Alta Vista de Boracay, the students were warmly welcomed by the hotel staff and were served welcoming drinks, which made them feel appreciated after the long trip. Afterwards, they had lunch together before preparing for the scheduled activities. After settling into their hotel rooms, the students participated in a land tour around Boracay. During the tour, they visited different tourist spots, establishments, and attractions around the island. They observed that many establishments strictly followed environmental rules and cleanliness policies to maintain the island’s beauty and comfort for tourists. This experience helped the students understand that hospitality workers and tourism employees carry the responsibility of maintaining quality service while protecting the environment. During their free time, the students were able to relax and enjoy bonding activities with one another which became memorable moments that allowed students to relax, strengthen their friendships, and enjoy each other’s company outside the classroom environment.

On April 23, 2026, the second day of the educational tour focused on seminars and practical training activities related to the hospitality industry. In the morning, the students attended seminars conducted by professionals and speakers from the hospitality industry where the students gained valuable knowledge, new ideas, and important information related to hotel operations, customer service, professionalism, and hospitality management. After the seminar, the students were randomly grouped together with other sections and divided into four groups for the actual practical training.

In the afternoon, the students participated in practical training activities where they were able to apply and experience the lessons discussed during the seminars. One of the training activities focused on housekeeping operations. The students learned proper bed-making procedures, room arrangement, towel folding, and cleaning techniques. The students also learned about front office operations, where they observed how front office staff welcomed guests, answered inquiries, handled reservations, and provided assistance professionally. Another training activity focused on cooking operations, where the students learned about food preparation, sanitation, teamwork, and kitchen organization. The students also participated in bartending activities where they learned basic beverage preparation, serving procedures, and customer interaction.
Aside from the educational activities, the second day also became memorable because of the socialization night held in the evening. After a tiring but productive day, the students were able to relax and enjoy themselves together with their classmates and teachers through a socialization night.

On April 24, 2026, the final day of the educational tour in Boracay, the students participated in a series of team-building activities that happened at the Puka Beach which consisted of various games and challenges that required strong cooperation and unity among group members. Each activity emphasized the importance of working together and supporting one another in order to achieve a common goal. In addition, the team-building activities highlighted the importance of cooperation in the hospitality industry. In hotels and restaurants, employees from different departments must work together to provide excellent service and ensure guest satisfaction.

As the tour came to an end, the students felt both happiness and emotion as their three-day experience in Boracay concluded. Before leaving, they reflected on everything they had learned and experienced. It became clear that the educational tour was not only about visiting places and having fun, but also about gaining valuable lessons, strengthening friendships, and preparing for future careers in the hospitality industry.

The said education and learning exposure for second-year BSHM students served as a learning experience that covers the academic courses of Front Office Operation, Housekeeping Operation, Specialty Cuisine, Applied Business Tool, and Quality Service of the BSHM program. Ultimately, this educational tour aimed to expose learners to industry-level demonstrations and simulations in different areas of the hospitality and tourism sector that will further equip students with relevant knowledge and essential experience to become career-ready hoteliers and as future-ready hospitality professionals.

Day 5 of the educational tour was spent onboard through 2GO Travel aboard the St. Michael Archangel as the BSHM 3rd Year students continued their journey back home while participating in meaningful learning experiences and creating unforgettable memories together. The day began with breakfast onboard, where students enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of the voyage while reflecting on the valuable experiences gained throughout the educational tour.

Following breakfast, the students officially commenced their onboard training and ship familiarization activities in various areas of the vessel. The session provided valuable hands-on exposure to maritime hospitality operations, allowing students to observe and better understand onboard services, front office operations, guest relations, accommodation services, safety procedures, and the importance of teamwork within a passenger vessel setting. The training served as an important opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with real-world hospitality and tourism practices.

Throughout the activity, students learned the significance of professionalism, coordination, communication, adaptability, and service excellence in delivering quality guest experiences at sea. The onboard exposure further broadened their understanding of the diverse career opportunities available within the hospitality and tourism industry.

Lunch was served onboard as students continued sharing stories, laughter, reflections, and memorable moments with classmates and instructors. The voyage became even more meaningful as everyone reminisced about the unforgettable experiences, educational visits, industry immersions, and bonding moments shared throughout the tour.

As evening arrived, the students gathered for dinner onboard, which also served as the culminating activity of the entire educational tour. The night was filled with joy, gratitude, entertainment, and heartfelt reflections as students celebrated the successful completion of their journey. Messages of appreciation, inspiring realizations, and shared experiences highlighted how the educational tour became more than just an academic requirement β€” it became a meaningful journey of friendship, personal growth, learning, and inspiration.

A graduation ceremony then followed, courtesy of our onboard training officers and facilitators, who ensured that all student trainees were properly guided, supervised, and well taken care of throughout the onboard training experience. Their support and expertise greatly contributed to making the activity educational, safe, and memorable for everyone.

The culminating activity reminded everyone that beyond the destinations visited and lessons learned, the greatest part of the journey was the memories created together β€” memories that will forever remain in the hearts of these future hospitality and tourism professionals. 🚒✨

After checking out from the hotel, the group departed for the historic Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite β€” the ancestral home of General Emilio Aguinaldo and one of the most important landmarks in Philippine history. As students explored the shrine, they gained a deeper understanding of the country’s struggle for independence, patriotism, and cultural heritage. The lecture provided valuable industry insights relevant to their future careers in hospitality and tourism management. At the end of the session, certificates were awarded to recognize the students’ participation and engagement in the learning activity.

In the afternoon, students proceeded to the Gardenia Bakery Plant Tour, where they witnessed firsthand the large-scale bread production process of one of the country’s leading bakery brands. The tour provided students with valuable exposure to food production operations, sanitation standards, quality assurance procedures, and efficient manufacturing systems β€” all essential components in hospitality and food service management.

To end the day on a fun and exciting note, the students headed to Star City for unlimited rides and recreational activities. Filled with laughter, thrill, and unforgettable bonding moments, the amusement park experience became one of the most enjoyable parts of the educational tour as students created lasting memories with their classmates and instructors.

As evening arrived, the group departed for the pier for their return trip to Iloilo. Students checked in their luggage and boarded the vessel via 2Go M/V St. Michael the Archangel, where onboard orientations and distribution of duties were conducted to ensure organization, teamwork, and safety throughout the voyage and in preparation for their onboard training. Dinner was served onboard as everyone reflected on the meaningful experiences, lessons, friendships, and memories created throughout the educational tour.

Day 3 of the educational tour officially unfolded with an early wake-up call and a hearty hotel buffet breakfast as the BSHM 3rd Year students prepared for one of the most educational, enriching, and industry-centered experiences of the entire trip.

Batch 1, composed of Sections A, C, D, and E, departed for MacroAsia Inflight Services and Facilities, Inc. (MSFI), where students were divided into two groups in accordance with the facility’s maximum capacity guidelines. Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed and oriented regarding the company’s safety protocols and operational standards inside the facility.

The immersion officially commenced with an engaging audio-visual presentation entitled β€œHow Airplane Food is Made,”giving students an in-depth overview of the commissary operations of one of the country’s leading inflight catering service providers. The session allowed students to gain firsthand insights into food preparation, logistics, quality control, airline catering operations, and service management β€” all essential aspects of the hospitality and aviation industries.

The learning experience continued through an informative company overview presented by representatives from the Sales, Human Resources, Operations, and General Management departments. Students were introduced to the company’s organizational structure, workforce management practices, operational excellence, and customer service standards that contribute to the success of MacroAsia.

One of the highlights of the visit was the discussion on Quality Management Systems and Food Safety, where students learned the significance of hygiene protocols, international food safety standards, proper handling procedures, and operational efficiency in large-scale catering services. At the culmination of the session, certificates were awarded to recognize the students’ active participation and meaningful learning experience.

The second day of the educational tour began with an early wake-up call as the BSHM 3rd Year students prepared for another meaningful and exciting day in Manila. The morning started with a satisfying buffet breakfast at the hotel, giving everyone the energy needed for a full day of activities, learning, and exploration.

Batch 1, composed of Sections A, C, D, and E, proceeded to Golden Success for a Personality Development Training. Dressed in their corporate executive attire, the students showcased professionalism, confidence, and elegance fit for future hospitality and tourism professionals. The session became an enriching experience as they gained valuable insights on personality enhancement, communication skills, confidence-building, and professional etiquette. To commemorate their participation, certificates were awarded, making the experience even more memorable and rewarding.

After the insightful seminar, the group enjoyed a delightful buffet lunch at Tramway, where students shared stories, laughter, and reflections from the morning session while enjoying a wide variety of food selections.

Meanwhile, Batch 2, composed of Sections B, F, G, and H, attended their seminar at MacroAsia Catering Services. The students were welcomed with an orientation and briefing on facility guidelines, followed by an audio-visual presentation titled β€œHow Airplane Food is Made”, which provided an overview of commissary operations. Discussions on company operations, human resources, sales, and quality management systems further enriched the students’ learning experience. The seminar also emphasized food safety standards and operational excellence in inflight catering services, capped with certificate distribution and an early lunch.

In the afternoon, the educational journey continued with visits to two of the country’s most significant cultural institutions under the National Museum Complex. Students explored selected galleries at the National Museum of Natural History and the National Museum of Fine Arts, where they appreciated the beauty of Philippine biodiversity, heritage, culture, history, and artistic excellence. The museum visits deepened their understanding of Filipino identity while connecting classroom learning to real-life cultural appreciation and tourism experiences.

As the day transitioned into evening, the group headed to Okada Manila, where students were amazed by its world-class architecture, elegant interiors, and vibrant atmosphere. The experience highlighted the standards of luxury hospitality and tourism operations in the Philippines, giving students valuable exposure to upscale industry practices.

The night concluded with a delicious dinner at Red Spice Okada Manila, followed by the breathtaking Fountain Show, which captivated everyone with its dazzling lights, music, and synchronized water performances. It became one of the most unforgettable moments of the tour, leaving students in awe and appreciation of the beauty and creativity behind world-class entertainment and hospitality experiences.

Filled with learning, inspiration, and memorable moments, the students returned to the hotel to rest and recharge for another exciting day ahead. ✨
