Researchers, extensionists, students, and experts from diverse fields gathered as the 2nd International Conference on Sustainable Solutions for Engineering, Science, Health, Education, and Technology (ICSS-ESHET)2026 opened on September 23 at the City of Ilagan Community Center.
The conference convenes 384 participating researchers and extensionists, 513 students from various academic programs, and distinguished national and international resource speakers.
ICSS-ESHET 2026 seeks to bridge disciplines, encourage knowledge exchange, and create opportunities for collaboration that can translate ideas and research into responsive and sustainable solutions.
In his welcome address, Engr. Alfonso Simon, Campus Executive Officer of Isabela State UniversityโIlagan Campus, emphasized that the value of the conference extends beyond the exchange of expertise.
โTo be part of this journey of learning and growth, let us remember that the true measure of this gathering lies not only in the researches that we will be presenting, but in the connection and friendship that we build and the vision we share for the brighter and better nation,โ Simon said.
Building on this vision, Simon expressed hope that the connections formed during the conference would develop into lasting partnerships, allowing shared insights to move beyond discussion and contribute to sustainable progress in communities and institutions.
On the other hand, Dr. Orlando Balderama, ISU Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Community Engagement, likewise underscored that knowledge transfer, capacity building, and strategic cooperation are integral to the Universityโs academic identity.
His message placed the conference within ISUโs broader commitment to ensuring that knowledge and research create meaningful impact beyond the academe.
Reinforcing this direction, ISU President Dr. Boyet Batang called on participants to use the conference as a space where ideas can move toward action and innovation.
โMay it become the meeting of purpose, may the learnings we gain here challenge us to transform knowledge into action, ideas to innovation, and innovation into lasting solution,โ Batang said.
Guest of Honor Mayor Jose Marie Diaz, represented by City Vice Mayor Jay Eveson Diaz, further emphasized the shared responsibility of different sectors in developing solutions that respond to people's needs, underscoring the importance of bringing diverse fields together toward a common purpose.
The opening ceremony culminated in the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), establishing a framework for strengthened institutional cooperation, joint research initiatives, and technical knowledge-sharing.
