Affordable farm produce reached Isabela State University-Ilagan Campus on April 21, 2026 as the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 02 (DA-RFO 02) expanded its KADIWA Partnership Program through the โ€œCabbage for a Causeโ€ initiative, enabling direct farm-to-campus selling.

Fresh cabbage sourced from Sto. Niรฑo, Cagayan was sold at โ‚ฑ15 per kilogram, with 600 kilograms delivered to the Ilagan campus. The rollout forms part of a wider distribution across ISU campuses, including Echague and San Mariano, aimed at widening access to low-cost agricultural goods.

The activity also marked a formal turn-over ceremony between ISU Ilagan and DA-RFO 02, reinforcing efforts to connect local producers to institutional markets while addressing oversupply during peak harvest season. By cutting intermediary layers, the initiative allows farmers to sell produce more efficiently while offering cheaper options to consumers within the university.

ISU Ilagan Cluster Executive Officer Dr. Alfonso R. Simon highlighted the value of sustained partnerships in driving agricultural development, noting that such collaborations strengthen the universityโ€™s role in integrating instruction, research, and community extension.

Meanwhile, a message from DA-RFO 02 Regional Executive Director Dr. Rose Mary G. Aquino, delivered by Engr. Rolando D. Pedro, emphasized that initiatives like KADIWA help secure stable markets for farmers while improving food accessibility in local communities.

Originally launched in Cagayan, the KADIWA Partnership Program continues to expand across Region 02 as part of broader efforts to improve farm-to-market systems and support agricultural producers facing fluctuating demand.

Through โ€œCabbage for a Cause,โ€ the university and the agriculture department advance a shared goal of making food more accessible while strengthening support systems for local farmers.

ISU-Ilagan and DA-RFO 02 Strengthen Partnership Through โ€œCabbage for a Causeโ€ Turn-Over Ceremony

City of Ilagan, Isabela โ€” A meaningful step toward strengthening agricultural collaboration and community development was marked today, April 21, 2026, as Isabela State University (ISU) Ilagan Campus, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 02 (DA-RFO 02), conducted the Turn-Over Ceremony for the KADIWA Partnership Activity dubbed โ€œCabbage for a Cause.โ€

In his welcome address, Dr. Alfonso R. Simon, Cluster Executive Officer of ISU Ilagan Campus, emphasized the importance of partnerships in advancing agricultural initiatives and uplifting local communities. He underscored the universityโ€™s dedication to supporting programs that bridge education, research, and extension services.

A message of support was conveyed from the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 02 through its representative, Engr. Rolando D. Pedro, DA-CVRC Manager, who duly represented Regional Executive Director Dr. Rose Mary G. Aquino. The message highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts in ensuring food security and empowering local farmers.

The โ€œCabbage for a Causeโ€ initiative symbolizes more than just a turn-over of agricultural produceโ€”it represents a collective effort to promote sustainable farming, strengthen market systems, and create opportunities for local communities. Through this partnership, ISU Ilagan continues to expand its role in community engagement and agricultural development, further solidifying its commitment to inclusive growth and innovation.

The ICT team of Isabela State University Ilagan Campus introduced two innovative systems to support smarter governance and disaster preparedness in the City of Ilagan, Isabela.

The Ilagan Barangay Information Management System (BIMS) aims to digitize and centralize records across 91 barangays, improving efficiency and service delivery. Meanwhile, the Community Risk Assessment (CRA) System enhances data collection and analysis to support disaster risk reduction efforts, particularly for the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

The systems were presented to key officials, including the Cluster Executive Officer of ISU-Ilagan, Dr. Alfonso R. Simon, the CDRRM Officer, Ms. Geralyn G. Gaรฑgan, and and the CDRRMO Research and Planning Section Chief, Ms. Marineth Kaye Paguirigan, highlighting the role of technology in strengthening local governance.

Developed by ICT students John Xedric B. Alejo and Mark Kevin M. Ramos under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Mark Gil T. Gaรฑgan, the project showcases strong collaboration between students and faculty.

This initiative reflects ISU Ilaganโ€™s commitment to creating impactful digital solutions for more efficient governance and resilient communities.
