GRADUATE SCHOOL STUDENTS DEVELOP INNOVATIVE INSTRUCTIONAL DEVICES FOR TEACHING AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY
Joevie Jane R. Talaue and Lloyd C. Lapada, both graduating students of Isabela State University–Ilagan under the Master of Arts in Industrial Education major in Technology and Home Economics (MAIE-THE) program, have developed innovative instructional devices as part of their research outputs aimed at enhancing the teaching of automotive technology courses.
To improve hands-on learning and promote safety and efficiency in skill-based training for automotive technology subjects in technical-vocational secondary schools and vocational courses under TESDA and SUCs, Talaue, a vocational teacher at Reina Mercedes Vocational and Industrial School (RMVIS), designed and fabricated a Dual-Mode Automotive Multipurpose Worktable Lifter.
This equipment features both electric and manual lifting mechanisms and was built with safety, functionality, and instructional relevance in mind. Talaue utilized the Project Development Method (PDM) and a descriptive-evaluative research design, seeing to it that the instructional device underwent systematic design, fabrication, testing, and revision.
Meanwhile, Lloyd Cabreros Lapada, an automotive instructor at Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), Bayombong Campus, developed a Portable Car Air Conditioning Trainer integrated with a charging system.
Constructed using locally available materials and aligned with the Bachelor of Technical and Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTED) curriculum, Lapada’s trainer simulates actual air conditioning and charging system operations for automotive students.
Found to be both relevant and practical, the two instructional devices received excellent ratings from evaluators comprising automotive instructors, students, and industry practitioners.
These innovations highlight ISU–Ilagan Graduate School's commitment to improving the quality of technology education through research and bridging the gap between academic training and industry practice.
Both Talaue and Lapada have published their research in international peer-reviewed journals. They will walk the stage and join other MAIE graduating students during ISU–Ilagan’s 2025 Commencement Exercises on July 02.
