This study generally aims to determine the partition behavior of microplastic in different environmental matrices (mangrove, beach, water, and seagrass). Primarily, by determining the factors that affects the movement, fate, and distribution of microplastics in different matrices.
This would produce a better understanding on the presence of microplastics in the environment.

This study has significant contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) numbers 12 and 14. In the SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production), the preventive action is on the target 12.5 substantially reduce waste generation. The SDG 14 (Life Below Water), the target is on the 14.1 to reduce marine pollution from land-based activities, and the preventive action using the indicator 14.1.1 (plastic debris density).

Microplastics-plastic particles smaller than five millimeters-are now being detected not only in oceans, rivers, and soils, but also in the air. Road dust in Cagayan de Oro City has already been documented to contain microplastics, raising a critical question: can traffic and changing weather conditions lift these particles from road surfaces into roadside air?

The study aims to investigate the (1). occurrence, composition, (2). temporal dynamics, and (3). Selective road-to-air mobilization of microplastics in the urban roadside environments of Cagayan de Oro City.

Rather than simply confirming that microplastics are present, this research tells a broader environmental story: roads may act as temporary reservoirs of plastic particles, while vehicles and changing weather conditions may help selectively remobilize some of these particles into the roadside breathing zone.

The study contributes to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by strengthening the evidence base on emerging airborne contaminants, urban air quality monitoring, and sustainable environmental management.

This study is will be the first in the Philippines to establish baseline molecular fingerprints, weathering patterns of oil spills, under the countryโ€™s tropical marine conditions following the 2023 MT Princess Empress (Oriental Mindoro) and 2024 MT Terra Nova (Bataan) oil spills. Specifically, it aims to (1) determine the weathering behavior of spilled oil, and (2) assess the spatial distribution of the oil concentrations in the polluted Philippine waters.

This research also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 โ€“ Life Below Water, particularly Target 14.1, which seeks to reduce marine pollution, and Target 14.8, which promotes scientific knowledge, research, and technology for ocean health.

This study provides a comprehensive assessment of water security in Iligan City by integrating key dimensions of water resources, service delivery, public health, and governance with household-based measures of service perception and willingness to pay. It develops an integrated Water Security Index to better understand both system performance and user experience, supporting the identification of priority areas and evidence-based decision-making. The findings aim to inform sustainable water resource management, improve service delivery, and strengthen local governance, contributing to the achievement of SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
