On August 29, 2026, the School of Interdisciplinary Studies held its ๐†๐ž๐ง๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ฅ ๐Ž๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง and ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ-๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ ๐†๐ž๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ (๐†๐€๐ƒ) ๐Ž๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง at the University Amphitheater.

The morning session featured an enjoyable and informative orientation for the graduate students of the ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐„๐ง๐ฏ๐ข๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ฅ ๐’๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž, Sustainable Development Studies, and Data Science. The students were introduced to ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐š๐ง๐ญ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ, ๐ ๐ฎ๐ข๐๐ž๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ฌ, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐ ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ governing their respective programs to help ensure that their academic journey would be smooth, meaningful, and successful.

In the afternoon, ๐’๐ˆ๐’ ๐ฐ๐š๐ฌ ๐ฃ๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ ๐›๐ฒ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐†๐ž๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ (๐†๐€๐ƒ) ๐‚๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ for an engaging session that brought together SIS students for ๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ , ๐ซ๐ž๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฆ๐ž๐š๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐Ÿ๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐œ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐จ๐ง ๐ ๐ž๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ. The orientation provided valuable insights into gender-related concerns, sexual harassment, reporting mechanisms for misconduct, and the Instituteโ€™s responsibility to empower its constituents to become more informed, inclusive, and responsive members of the university community.

This study assesses the spatial distribution, carbon stock, and soil characteristics of mahogany and native tree stands in Mount Agad-agad, Iligan City, as basis for evidence-based forest restoration. It maps the extent of mahogany plantation and native tree-dominated areas using UAV, compares soil properties and aboveground carbon stock between stand types and age classes, and assesses tree species diversity. The study will also gather community perceptions and willingness to participate in a proposed native tree nursery program. The findings are expected to provide essential scientific evidence to the Local Government Unit of Iligan City in prioritizing areas for conversion from mahogany plantation to native forest and in developing a community-managed native tree nursery program.
