The College of Education (CED) of the Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) showcased its national excellence as its student-teachers bagged multiple awards in the recently concluded 2025 WCCI–Philippine Student Teachers’ Network (PSTN) Teachers’ Month Competition, held in celebration of World Teachers’ Month.
Organized by the World Council for Curriculum and Instruction–Philippine Student Teachers’ Network (WCCI–PSTN), the annual competition gathered teacher education institutions nationwide to exhibit innovation and creativity in teaching and learning.
Led by Association of Student Teachers in Education (ASTE) President Christian Lachica and Vice President Arren Jean Jacalan, MSU-IIT’s delegation emerged as one of the most decorated contingents in the event, winning two championships, one first runner up, and one finalist citation across four categories.
CED’s strong showing was headlined by Arren Jean Jacalan, Christian Lachica, and Faith Ybonne Calunod, who won the Lens of Legacy: Video Making Contest for their creative portrayal of educators’ enduring impact.
In the IM Video Lesson Making Contest, Lynch Danica Maano, Elmea Maris Cañaliso, Princess Ann Romero, Elisha Mae Oliveros, and Juanna Lee Ligad also bagged the championship for her outstanding instructional media design.
Meanwhile, Joseph Miles Cabaluna and Jerham B. Acmad placed first runner-up in the Chalk to Canvas: Traditional Poster Making Contest, while the team of Fily Rose Oñez, Mhe Anne Canama, Reyheart Salavaria, Princess M**h Saromines, and Cherry Mae Bayon-on finished as finalists in the IM Gamified: Modern Gamified Instructional Material Making Competition.
Lachica shared that the team’s achievement reflects the collective commitment of CED student-teachers anchored on the university’s core values.
“This experience allowed us to use our voice and creativity as instruments of advocacy—for quality, inclusive, and compassionate education. That is the legacy we hope to leave as future educators,” he said.
The documentary team also dedicated their award-winning video to the teacher whose story inspired their documentary, which portrayed the realities faced by educators in far-flung communities.
“We would like to sincerely thank Ma’am Mary Grace from Doña Matrona Actub Yañez Memorial School for generously sharing her story with us. Her story gave us the courage to tell not just our narrative, but the collective story of educators who dedicate their lives to shaping the future.”
The WCCI–PSTN competition continues to highlight student-teachers’ creativity in pedagogy and instructional design, strengthening collaboration among future educators across the Philippines.
With this year’s success, the college reaffirms its standing as one of the country’s leading institutions in teacher education and instructional innovation.
