In celebration of MSU-IIT's RESEARCH DAYS 2026, Langkit brings you a FREE WEBINAR on "Publishing Across Borders: Navigating the Global South–North Divide in Academic Research"

Date: April 20,

Time: 9:00 AM–12:00 NN (PH time)

No need to register. The Zoom Details are in the graphic.

See you!!!

-------------------------------------

The contemporary global academic landscape is increasingly shaped not only by teaching but more significantly by research outputs, publications, and citation metrics. This emphasis has contributed to persistent inequalities between institutions in the Global North and those in the Global South, where researchers often face systemic barriers such as limited funding, inadequate infrastructure, and the enduring effects of intellectual colonialism. In response, scholars from developing contexts must adopt strategic approaches that foster meaningful collaboration, prioritize locally relevant research, and critically engage with existing global power structures in academia.

This webinar seeks to explore these challenges by creating a space for critical dialogue and reflection. How can researchers from developing countries, such as the Philippines, overcome structural barriers to produce high-quality, impactful research? What does it take to publish in top-tier journals, and how can such spaces be more accessible? In what ways can collaborations between the Global North and Global South be strengthened to promote more equitable research dynamics?

These questions and more will be examined in conversation with Froilan Malit, a PhD candidate in Politics and International Studies at the SOAS University of London. He is also the founder and managing director of Rights Corridor, an organization dedicated to data management and analysis on migration in the Middle East.
Drawing from his experiences as a “transnational citizen,” Mr. Malit will lead the discussion on navigating the complexities of academic research and publication across global contexts.

------------------

This webinar will be on Monday, April 20, from 9 am to 12noon PH time. The Zoom meeting ID is on the graphic.

The Langkit Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities mourns the passing of one of its former associate editors, Dr. Enrique “Iking” Batara. Prior to his retirement last year, Sir Iking made significant contributions to the Journal’s operations, helping ensure its quality and scholarly rigor. His insights played a vital role in shaping what the Journal is today.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife, Angelie, his children, and his siblings. We pray for his eternal repose.

Rest easy, Sir Iking. You will be deeply missed.

Langkit's December 2025 issue is now published online and is freely accessible and downloadable. Five empirically grounded and theoretically engaged studies that examine how language, identity, power, and learning are lived and negotiated in concrete social contexts are included in this issue. While the studies span applied linguistics, socio-pragmatics, linguistic typology, education, and q***r studies, they share a commitment to localized inquiry and to understanding social life beyond abstract or aggregate frameworks. Collectively, they foreground how knowledge generation emerges from diverse methodological and theoretical orientations, which remain indispensable to contemporary social inquiry.

We would like to thank our contributors from different institutions here in the country and abroad for trusting Langkit Journal in the dissemination of their research and to all our reviewers and section editors for their patience and scholarly rigor in ensuring that all articles reflect quality, novelty and impact to the communities. Daghang salamat.

We are now accepting submissions for our July and December 2026 issues. Original research that contributes to the advancement of ideas in the social sciences, cultural studies, literature, humanities, and the arts. The journal recognizes that these disciplines often intersect, and thus welcomes submissions that employ interdisciplinary approaches, theoretical innovations, or comparative perspectives to shed new light on contemporary and historical issues. By offering space to both established and emerging scholars, Langkit seeks to enrich academic conversations while reflecting the diversity of intellectual traditions within and beyond the Philippines.

Langkit also accept book reviews.
