In the movement of bodies, we remember. In the sharing of steps, we become.
WVSU TeatroTayo stands in solidarity with the Philippine Folk Dance Society, West Visayas State University, Province of Iloilo, and Philippine Folk Dance Society - Irong-Irong Dance Company Chapter, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in hosting the 44th National Folk Dance Workshop (NFDW 2026), a convergence of artists, educators, and cultural workers committed to carrying forward the living pulse of Philippine dance.
Beyond technique, NFDW becomes a space of listening: to histories embedded in gesture, to identities shaped by rhythm, and to the urgent conversations that shape dance education today.
Through PANUHID: National Dance Research Forum, we witness how scholarship and performance meet, where critical inquiry sharpens practice, and tradition is both honored and reimagined.
As practitioners of theater and movement, we recognize that every folk dance is not merely performed. It is embodied memory, a site of negotiation, and a call to responsibility.
May this gathering deepen our commitment not only to preservation, but to meaningful, ethical, and context-aware practice.
