University of the Philippines Visayas extends its congratulations to its alumnus, Jed Patrick E. Mabilog, on his appointment as Undersecretary for Public Safety of the Department of the Interior and Local Government. Mabilog graduated from UP High School in Iloilo as a member of the Class of 1982.

We send our deepest sympathies to the family of Jose L. Concepcion, Jr. (Pioneer Graduate, Lower Division 1948, UPIC). He passed away May 1, 2026.

He was a member of pioneer batch 1947 who entered UP in Iloilo College Lower Division (high school) when it first opened. He was recognized as the oldest alumni in attendance in the 2022 UPV Homecoming via UPAAIC Dinner and Awards Night and was featured in the UP Carillon Alumni Magazine 2022 UPV Issue.

Our condolences to the family of Joci H. Demaisip (BSBA '74, UPI).

He passed away April 27, 2026. Viewing will start April 30, 2026, at 4:00PM, at St. Anne Room, St. Peter's Chapel, Mandurriao, Iloilo City. Necrological service will be on May 6, 2026 at 7:00PM. Funeral mass will be on May 7, 2026, at 9:00AM at St. Clement's Church, Lapaz, Iloilo City. Interment will be at Christ the King Memorial Park, Jaro, Iloilo City.

UPV Clovers Class '88 Supports Bio Sci Laboratory Improvement

Clovers alumni Class of 1988 turned over its donation to the UP Visayas College of Arts and Sciences Division of Biological Sciences. Present during the turn over were Ms. Mae P. Cababasay (BS Biology 1988) representing Clovers Class of 1988, Dr. Diana P. Paguntalan, Chairperson of the Division of Biological Sciences, Dr. Joy P. Cababasay-Lizada, Dr. Ferdinand Tesoro, Prof. Marie Frances J. Nievales, and Prof. Ma. Elisa D. Baliao, Director of the Office of Alumni Relations.

The donation amounted to almost P135,000 intended for improvements in the division's laboratories.

JOIN US. The National Museum of the Philippines – San Jose de Buenavista (Antique) invites the public to Pagbálay kag Pagsaysay: Construction of Narratives Through Writing, Visuals, and Politics from Panay to Spain, on 20 April 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Legislative Hall of the Old Antique Provincial Capitol, San Jose de Buenavista, Antique.

This public program brings together conversations on regional history, archival recovery, visual culture, and political writing through the lives and works of Félix Laureano, Vicente Rendon Gella, and Graciano López Jaena. It also marks the Antique launch of the books Graciano’s Dirty Fingers and Bugasong to Barcelona.

The talks will be delivered by Frank Villanueva — Searching for Felix Laureano in Bugasong and Barcelona, Anna Cecilia Pefianco — Recovering the records of Vicente Rendon Gella, and Emmanuel Lerona — Finding dirt in Graciano’s dirty fingers.

Faculty, staff, students, researchers, cultural workers, and interested members of the public are invited to attend.

This National Literature Month program is presented by the National Museum of the Philippines – San Jose de Buenavista (Antique), in partnership with the Province of Antique and the Friends of UP Visayas High School Foundation, Inc.

The program is made possible with the support of the UPV Office of the Initiatives for Culture and the Arts, Center for West Visayan Studies, UPV Division of Professional Education, Hirupay Daonhon, UP Antiqueno, and JCI Antique.
