ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Highlighting the critical role of nurses in navigating the age of artificial intelligence, economic instability, and climate crises, West Visayas State University (WVSU) President Dr. Joselito Villaruz officially opened the Nursing Annual Research Summit, challenging Filipino nurses to lead the future of healthcare through culturally rooted and technologically responsive research.

ILOILO CITY — WVSU President Dr. Joselito Villaruz opened the Dance Research Symposium and Workshop for "Critical Essays on Philippine Dance" today at Smallville 21, Mandurriao. In his message, Dr. Villaruz highlighted the university's commitment to institutionalizing cultural research through the College of Physical Education, Sports, Culture, and the Arts (PESCAR), emphasizing the need to document Filipino artistic identity with academic rigor.

The three-day event brings together 14 researchers and Ph.D. candidates from institutions such as the University of the Philippines Diliman, the University of Hawaii, and York University. This symposium serves as the foundation for a long-term writing program aimed at challenging Western-centric narratives and securing a space for Philippine dance studies in major international academic journals.

By hosting this strategic gathering, WVSU positions itself at the forefront of a national movement to elevate dance from performance to high-level intellectual inquiry. The workshop, which concludes on May 16, establishes a permanent cohort of scholars dedicated to representing Philippine dance on the global academic stage.

ILOILO CITY — Seeking to enhance its medical programs through institutional synergy, Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) conducted a benchmarking visit to the College of Medicine today, highlighted by a formal courtesy call to Dr. Villaruz. The visit aimed to facilitate an exchange of best practices in medical curriculum development and facility management as both institutions strive for higher standards in health education.

𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 (𝗧𝗘𝗖) 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝘄𝗼-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗢𝗻-𝗦𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗩𝗦𝗨

ILOILO CITY — West Visayas State University (WVSU) officially began a two-day on-site evaluation today. The Teacher Education Council (TEC) and its Pool of National Assessors are conducting the field visit for the 2026 Search for Teacher Education Centers of Excellence. University President Dr. Joselito Villaruz stated that the visit serves as the definitive validation of the institution's systems, instructional practices, and commitment to the teaching profession.

The university qualified for the on-site visit after meeting requirements during an initial document evaluation phase. Throughout today and tomorrow, assessors are reviewing physical documentary exhibits, records, and means of verification prepared by the university staff.

Dr. Villaruz noted that the pursuit of the Center of Excellence designation is part of the university’s goal to produce educators of the highest caliber and innovate in pedagogy. While the field visit is a validation process and does not guarantee a final designation, the university administration is using the evaluation as an opportunity for institutional growth and to demonstrate that its curriculum meets national standards.
